Driving the news: The posters — which read "ARRESTED" — specify various crimes linked to the pictured immigrants and have the White House's official logo at the bottom.

-The "roughly 100" posters were being placed strategically along "Pebble Beach," where TV news crews do live shots in front of the mansion. A White House official told Axios the intent is for the posters to be visible behind TV journalists reporting from those positions.

-Posters positioned near the West Wing claim to show unauthorized immigrants arrested for "first-degree murder," "sexual abuse of a child," "kidnapping and rape," "murder," "rape of a child," and "distribution of fentanyl."

-Others claim to show people charged with "sexual assault of minors," "sexual contact with a child," and "lewd acts in front of a child."

-The posters describe the arrestees as "illegal aliens." Their names and precise legal statuses aren't included.

At least it reflects what's inside.

You ever drive past "that house"? You know the one I mean. The one that has a yard full of signs, banners, flags, etc? The house equivalent of a car covered in crazy bumper stickers.

[–] JailElonMusk@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This is not a good sign.

If you're trying to get people to hate and fear people of color I guess you need to show them what color of people to hate?

This has "Mommy Mommy look at my report card" energy all over it.

Disgusting and vile people who try to justify hating those of color with lawn sized fascist trading cards.

We should figure out what company printed all of these and boycott them back to the printing press age.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Exactly. He’s like a modern day Vlad the Impaler.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Vlad was unique with the impalements but wasn't out of pocket according to the day. He was slandered by a rival.

there's a more recent and more accurate comp from germany who had a bad moustache inspired by charlie chaplan's moustache. he, individually, is why no one wears their facial hair like that anymore

Some should quickly print a sign with the guy who sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll and put it there....

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 0 points 1 year ago

This is screaming for someone to ham it up with some new signs. I would be pretty surprised if no one's done it inside a week.

They wouldn't have to be at the White House, although that would also be entertaining. It could just be the same format and posted literally anywhere.

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

This is their way of screaming at us "Why are you so mad that we're abducting children and sending American citizens to prison camps, when we've arrested like 10 whole pedophiles?!"

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We’d prefer they arrest the one in the White House.

Alleged pedophiles

The article is sparse of actual info, so I might be wrong, but these are just arrests. They might have gotten the wrong guys, or just made shit up.

Even if these guys are all pesos/rapists/etc its still a problem he's doing this. The rate of criminality is actuality lower in immigrant populations vs regular citizens so it paints a false picture. But its not even clear this is anything other than (baseless) accusations.

Trump: "for every sexual crime commited by one of our staff we arrested a guy, justice is done"

[–] INeedMana@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I would not be surprised if in a month it turns out a bunch of those don't match with the crimes

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 0 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Not only that, but I'm guessing what's printed are the crimes they're accused of rather than anything they've been convicted of.

Anyone can accuse anyone of anything at any time. That's why courts exist.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m guessing what’s printed are the crimes they’re accused of rather than anything they’ve been convicted of.

So Trump's picture should be up there.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ironically, no. He's actually been convicted of 34 felonies.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, but he has been accused of child sexual assault. As you say, anyone can make an accusation and he has been accused.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a complicated situation, lol, and I can see both sides of it.

As for that being "a taste of his own medicine", I agree.

Ultimately, though, I feel putting an actual convicted felon alongside people who are highly likely to be only accused of crimes sends the wrong message and gives them the implication of guilt.

Depends how you look at it, I guess lol.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Why not both? Put up posters of him with all/each of the allegations, and stamp CONVICTED across each of those. Since the immigrant ones don't have the stamp, just like some of the Trump ones, the distinction is made.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 0 points 1 year ago

I think my conscience could live with that. Even more so if we can stamp "UN-CONVICTED" on all the other ones.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

That would be a very elegant solution.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

It just says arrested so I'm wagering these guys were never given a trial, just deported to who the fuck knows where.

Not only that, but I bet there are a bunch of people here who really are US citizens, and a bunch more who are either here legally, or were until the President canceled their visas just for this stunt.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or it’s just random people.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Wouldn't be surprised if they were AI generated.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They sound like an ai was told to generate 100 different horrable crimes.

Do we know if the same crime text is used twice? It’s weird to talk about minor in one and child in the other.

This is all obvious theater and many of these are just pics of these people. No way to tell if they've actually been arrested before or if it's just random security footage, but the text differences might be that different states have different terminology. What classifies as rape or molestation or contact or anything else can differ from place to place. It might still be AI, but it's not unusual for the same crime to have different names depending on where it was committed.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Considering that they're making completely unsupported allegations re: Abrego Garcia, I have no trust whatsoever that they did more than elementary school research into the crimes they're attributing, and assume that nearly none of them are supported by court convictions.

Now do ones with PARDONED across the top

Someone should put up Trump's picture and all of his crimes with the heading "AT LARGE".

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

in a country of +300 million, it is easy to show a list of few dozen criminals of any social group

[–] captainjaneway@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

The very fact that sexual abuse of a minor is being conflated with immigration shows how far we've fallen. This document from the National Institute of Justice shows that the data indicates illegal immigrants have a much lower crime rate than citizens. The issue isn't that they are immigrants, it's that they're criminals. They were presumably committing similar crimes (or at least capable of doing so in Mexico). I'm not any happier knowing that a pedophile is now in Mexico/El Salvador. I want justice and reform. We should always strive for justice and reform. These illegal immigrants aren't the only ones committing these crimes. As I said earlier: largely, it's legal citizens committing these crimes. We need to create a system of justice and reform. We need to be able to handle citizens and illegal immigrants.

Obviously this administration would prefer to take every criminal and push them outside of our borders. Like I said, I don't care if a crime is committed in or out of my borders. I want justice and reform. I want to live in a world where crimes like this are basically non-existent. And I want to live in a world where people with these issues don't become repeat offenders.

Conflating immigration with these types of crimes is just making it harder for us to address the real issues with our justice and reformation system (lack thereof). Not to mention, we are basically just wasting money and time focusing on illegal immigrant crime when the bigger issue is crime being committed by citizens. It's like we cut off our arm, but as the arm fell to the ground one of the fingernails broke. So, this administration is spending all of its efforts on fixing the broken fingernail - and failing to patch the profuse loss of blood coming from its shoulder.

What's next? Heads on spikes? Public crucifixions?

[–] tal@lemmy.today 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Trump's managed to, in his first 100 days, reach overall public disapproval for pretty much everything other than immigration, so you figure that he's gonna double down on this, since it's his only really winning topic of discussion right now.

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 year ago

Heads on pikes. That's where we're at. Medieval theocracy, here we come

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

Trump's making the White House as ugly as the people within it.

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Somebody needs to put a picture of Trump in one of those posters and stick it on the lawn ...

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Man, the level of violence this administration has reached is unprecedented.

[–] Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Thats pretty wild. so much hate and fear, its exhausting.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is not good, it's the modern day equivalent of parading people down the street so the public can throw rocks or cabbage at them.

[–] cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That might still become a real thing considering where things are moving.

Wow, that's tacky as shit. Trump has debased the office of POTUS more than anyone could imagine.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

So can we print out all 1470 convicted and sentenced Jan 6th insurrectionist’s mug shots, each with actual names and crimes (for reference purposes. Don’t want anyone to think these are all fake) and a giant “PARDONED” stamp above them all?

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Quick, someone use that same templating and do Trumps 34x felonies. Plaster a bunch of them up in the same area where the ones on the WH lawn can be seen. Bet they'll get taken down real quick.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Anyone who's an actual adult knows that this is not how adults behave.

Now imagine the entire fucking building being full of adults that don't know how to behave like adults. Calling the shots for the most powerful, influential nation on the planet.

Because that's our reality now.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago

With the way GOPs title people, I seriously doubt all of those accusations.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 0 points 1 year ago

I bet that if you nuke all our cities you'll eliminate crime by a good 80%.

[–] VanillaFrosty@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Not even mug shots really. Just close ups of people who aren't white.

No names, no location, no information. Just "Murder" and a photo. It's less than a mug shot.
