There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml.

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml, however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

I looked but don't see a thread about Iranian music. It bums me out that we're bombing yet another country that we know nothing about. I like to think we Internet people are all friends regardless of our governments. I'm literally having panic attacks that I can't stop my electeds from being assholes, I wish I could commiserate and make friends with everyone else

Hey guys despite being on this site for 3 years I still am subscribed to same lemmies. I have searched but I haven't found any active and insteresting lemmies. I'd be really thankful if you guys could give me some recommendations. I am interested in tech, privacy, security, and I like funny memes which are not too political.

I understand that some of the criticism comes from conservatives but the sentiment seems to extend far beyond thst. Of course, I understand it when it's forced or when someone only does it to survive against their will. But if people genuinely want to do it, why do people hate on them?

I just started thinking about it. Why is space exploration even that necessary? They're spending so much money on it when we have so much problems in our own planet..

If the name might not be familiar to you, you may recognize his face... He's the "Ex-CIA" guy from YouTube.. Do you think he's credible and how much of his words are true? To what extent is he trustable?

The olympics.

I still hadn't cared for the olympics in quite a while, and I find that its last spark of relevance has faded back in the 90s/early 2000s. It has become politicized and commercialized, where there's little to no sense in getting that interested in them. It's also about just circlejerking for whichever country won the most medals, which ultimately doesn't matter compare to if we can respect a country that doesn't contribute to anymore shit that others do overall.

Also it's no surprise some of or most of the people attending are probably doped up too, so who cares about authenticity?

Even though Scotland is part of the UK, they print their own bank notes from 3 different banks: Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland & Clydesdale Bank. Same with Northern Ireland (not Ireland proper), their own version of the currency is from Ulster Bank. Despite that, they're both categorized as "Pound Sterling" (GBP).

Meaning they inherit the same monetary value as the British Pound, with the only difference being that they're issued by different banks (like the ones from the UK proper are issued by the Bank of England) while the Scottish ones are from either of those 3 banks mentioned & the Northern Irish one is from Ulster (and mainly used there).

Even though, both versions of the "Pound" exist: are they recognized in the UK (like Britain itself) as real money (legal tender) or will they consider it play money (refuse to accept)? The thing is, are they exchangeable in Europe or will there be issues with foreign exchanges on dealing with both Northern Irish & Scottish Pound notes?

I live in a socialist society, so basically everything is free. I don’t need money, so what’s to stop me from saying “fuck you” to my family and community, since I don’t have to work? I just want to party, sleep around, do drugs, and drink alcohol 24/7. I don’t want to work or help anyone that’s not me. What happens?

He is called Thaddäus Tentakel in German or Bläckvard Tentakel in Swedish.

As the last of the Easter eggs become egg salad, green olives in egg salad, yes or no? If yes, where are you? Trying to figure out where it's common. My wife and I believe that green olives belong in egg salad, but my coworkers say no.

The answer is subjective, depends on the nations one has for each passport and their diplomatic ties. There are also complications on who takes jurisdiction during crisis (like disaster or war) since one country will argue on who should take control of repatriation. For example, when the Iranian conflict started: evacuation flights issued by let's say by Germany for German citizens, what happens if an British person also has a German passport (a dual citizen of a EU and a non-EU country), wouldn't the UK also say they're also a citizen.

This is what I mean, during certain situations or a crisis: who takes charge if the individual is from 2 nationalities which may cause a dispute between both sides? Like, if Britain said "This guy is British" (refering to being stranded in UAE during a drone attack) but Germany recants "He's also ours". Although the repatriation flights are intended to be for German nationals stuck there, despite the individual also having a British passport even though Germany considers this person a German citizen by their second passport.

I ask as a butch lesbian (enby) myself. In Swedish, we have: truckflata or butchflata.

I suck at all 3 languages, but for femme I've just seen femmeflata.

I think it's just Butch and Femme in German, but I'm still kinda learning that.

Lesbians in German is lesben and in Swedish, it's "lesbiska" or "flator".

Do people actually care if a rich, beautiful girl dates a poor guy? Do people actually care if a 10/10 woman dates an "ugly" guy? People will see couples like that and say, "He's out of her league." Do people actually care about this? If Jessica Chastain, Angelina Jolie, or Alexandra Daddario dated a 25-year-old man (or woman) who works at a grocery store while attending college, would people actually care, judge, and look down on it? (Real people, not just keyboard people.)

I have a text/graphic file which I would like to have completely inside my Mastodon header, not clipped as is the norm.

I did some shrinking and shifting a number of different times, but it ends up either not centered, or the image is blurred.

I run Ubuntu GNU/Linux on my PCs, so I have access to Imagemagick, which can do almost anything with a graphics file from the command line. Also, GIMP, but I don't use that often.

Here's a look at the file, with some stats.

I mean, come on. From one corrupt regime to another. Who is next in line: Netanyahu? Putin? Or will there be a second one for the current holder who definitely not invaded Venezuela nor started a war with Iran.

I have seen a lot post talking about how Chinese companies collect US citizens data but I never seen a Chinese person complain about it. Do they think US doesn't have the power to abuse that data?

Really curious

This is not a facetious question. I know I can technically ask AI but i don't think this is a simple answer TBH, as I am confused about process, and I do not know enough about US politics.

All my life when observing US politics (which I don't really do for fun) there has generally been a very visible opposition leader, you know their name their stance etc. It's the same for most major powers. But for the USA I simply do not know anymore. I get the jist there is only 2 parties but the democratic party seems like its just disappeared. Previously there was news of candidates etc but that's just gone.

What is happening? and who is the leader of the opposition now?

I am not looking for a bunch of FTrump answers, it would be great to have a discussion that's rational and not about him.
