I wouldn't even go as far to defend raping minors (they totally 100% do), but they're also upset that young girls aren't getting pregnant at all, even through consensual sex with a male partner of their age group. All those damn liberal types are ~~educating~~ grooming our kids into "safe sex" and giving them "autonomy over their own decisions". More kids are growing up with more information about sex and that is resulting in a drop in youth pregnancies.
And that is what is upsetting them.

When I was in high school over 20 years ago they made us read The Handmaids Tale. I laughed thinking that book was so extreme and pessimistic. I'm not laughing anymore.
I read that book after graduating high school in the deep south a decade-ish before you did, and it was so validating to me see that someone else also saw how dangerous Christofascists are. I doubt our school library would have been allowed to carry it, much less assign it as reading.

Grown adults who can make conscious choices in life, tend to be more balanced in life decisions every day, are not the ones they care about having kids. Those adults have agency, and can make informed and consensual decisions to have children, and can weigh their current life situation, financial situations, etc.
They want kids to have kids, so they are forced at a young age to drop out of school and get working to raise your kids. Oh, you wanted to grow up, experience life, and go to one of those liberal indoctrination buildings they call "post-secondary education"? Fuck you and flip my burger for $7 an hour, you have a child to feed.

Well, pregnancy in general. It's based on "continued growth." It cannibalizes itself in any other conditions, well, in general.

I don't know if "preventing teen pregnancy" was truly the goal. Controlling women and their sexuality was more the goal. The real problem was their daughter getting pregnant by someone not of the parents' choosing.
