El-Sayed’s comment was a response to that. His claim is that if Vance’s Papaw would have seen a Muslim candidate in the bigoted terms that Vance articulated—as inherently posing a threat to “working people”—then he also might have seen Usha Vance in a similar way.
As a immigrant that grew up in the same Midwest environment, there's no might.
Man I'm really digging this El-Sayed guy. He's not pulling any punches while keeping them all well above-the-belt, and he's not afraid to (figuratively) hold a mirror up to the camera.
Like you know that scene in The Butterfly Effect where Ashton Kutcher's character goes back to when he was a kid and just confidently spouts straight knowledge to a bully about how shitty the bully's life is going to be?
He reminds me of that.
It's always so satisfying simply stating facts that are so egregious they come across as attacks and insults.
Everyone knows Vance has been simping on Erika Kirk ever since Charlie died. And that he would love to ditch Usha for her, if he could. He's not fooling anyone with this fake rage.

Honestly as an experienced multi-generstional Mormon basher I legit forget that part of their fucked up theology. Kinda hard to keep that in frame when the practical shit they tend to do in the practical, what with the theocracy that is Utah, the rampant environmental abuse, the unearned self righteousness so many of them have, and the weird as fuck cultural infantalism that is so common amongst the Utah variant in particular it's just kinda hard to care about the hypothetical space slavery y'know? Though I will say the further you get from Utah the saner they become, for example for some reason a lot of the younger ones in my area both men and women like Fallout NV, don't know of Joshua Graham has anything to do with that but yeah.
For the record, the culty terminology of calling each other brother and sister is not tied to the polygamy. It just comes with being a member of the cult in general.
It wouldn't be out of place to stop a bratty twelve year old running around on Sunday and say to him "Brother Harris, I've already told you once to stop running in the hallways." (Harris being the last name of the child.)
I'm not saying it isn't 100% cult behavior, but it isn't part of the multiple wives aspect. It's just how they all talk to each other regardless of who is married to whom.

Saw this comment first and thought it was a real quote, I would love to see El-Sayed actually say that directly to JD Vance
The vice president’s pose as an enforcer of chivalry and rectitude in our politics is ludicrous on its face, given his apologetics for Donald Trump’s nonstop vicious personal smears. But this episode is of interest for another reason: El-Sayed’s stance articulates a bigger point about Vance’s craven compromises with the MAGA coalition’s racist and white nationalist elements that is 100 percent correct.

For me it's always a red flag when the word "evil" is used. While it may be used in non-religious ways, it often has a religious context. Religion has caused too many problems for mankind, and that is why the separation of church and state is so important.
Implying "evil" is most often used religiously is ceding morality to religion. I say this as someone who is a Christian agnostic. If you have morals and you think things can be morally wrong, then you believe in "evil". It comes up in religions because religions often discuss morality, but religions didn't create the idea of evil.
