Big "you can't quit, your fired!" energy.

It can be a factor for some. Personally, I think I'm happier now overall than I was a couple of decades ago. Not to say I don't get cranky and irritable sometimes, because that definitely happens. Maybe moreso now. But I think that's because I just don't have the tolerance for nonsense.

But I'm fairly content with life. And my attitude towards people who have different lifestyle to me had mellowed out, because life's too short. I think that has helped with my overall happiness quite a lot.

I'd be even happier if the wider world wasn't going to shit. But eh, it is what it is.

To the surprise of nobody except for OP and a small number of other naive optimists.

So I guess that answers their underlying question: no, he's not smarter than he looks.

I now have a mental image of this guy rushing home after class each day, jumping on his computer, and going "maybe Trump won't be mentioned in the files at all today!...... No, nevermind. He's still in there, a lot. Damn. Well, maybe tomorrow!"

Donald Trump's Board of Peace has received only a tiny fraction of the $17 billion pledged for Gaza, preventing him from pushing ahead with his plan ~~for the shattered Palestinian enclave's future, sources told Reuters.~~ to embezzle the money for his own personal goals.

Fixed.

I've been down this path. Getting people to switch was a mixed bag. Some did and have stuck around using it. But others either refused ("another messaging app?!") or wanted to but ran into problems using Signal.

I've also run into problems connecting with people on Signal. They just aren't findable, even with their privacy settings relaxed and with me trying several formats of their number. After troubleshooting and having other people try, it seems random and makes no sense.

So the three biggest downsides of Signal are: a) users having to juggle yet another messaging app (because their friends/family are scattered across several and they find this overwhelming already); b) Signal looking a bit 'ugly' of not as useable to some people; c) people getting frustrated at not being able to connect with friends who are already on there.

The biggest upsides to Signal are a) it's not Meta or some other corporation trying to profit from exploring its users; b) it's a clean and simple UX (IMO) that doesn't try to do too much extra; c) the organization behind it takes security very seriously.

lamenting that birth rates are down among teenagers aged 15 to 19.

Wait, they want 15 year-old having kids?!!

Oh wait, it's Faux News. Yeah, gotta keep them young'uns overwhelmed with babies so they don't have time to do horrible things like express their concerns, or educate themselves, or aspire to their own dreams. Makes perfect sense.

Given how bad that fat-headed clown is at analyzing information, Alex Jones' claim is the biggest evidence you need that she is NOT breaking up with Trump.

The nipples are far too symmetrical.

First Lady Melania Trump has denied connections to Jeffrey Epstein, telling reporters at the White House that any claims linking the two "need to end today".

There are numerous photos of her and Epstein hanging out together and acting very friendly together. So these 'claims' are not going to end today or any time in the future, Melania. Because they aren't 'claims', they are documented facts!

If you don't want to be associated with creeps then maybe don't hang out with them for years on end. It's far too late for her to heed that advice. But she wouldn't anyway, because she's a shitty person, and shirt people tend to congregate together.

Edit: typos

'Conquest'? By basically every measure Iran was not a conquest.

The decision does not affect all of Trump's tariffs but invalidates those implemented using an emergency law.

Delivering a major blow to President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that he exceeded his authority when imposing sweeping tariffs using a law reserved for a national emergency.

The justices, divided 6-3 held that Trump's aggressive approach to tariffs on products entering the United States from across the world was not permitted under a 1977 law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

Fantastic job! The ladies prove again that when it counts they are the best women's team in the world! Up The Arsenal!

If real, this is an interesting development in AGI and AI consciousness. The topics and discussions on Moltbook (a new social network where only Moltbots can post and interact with each other) are fascinating.

Article also outlines our other Academy transfer ins during the Summer.

  • Eze had a deal with the spuds basically sitting in front of him, but he always wanted to come home to the Arsenal, with his long-standing love for his boyhood club known to basically everyone.
  • He called Arteta personally before signing the spuds' deal to see if there was a chance of us to come in at the 11th hour.
  • Arteta told him that after Havertz's recent injury action to strengthen the squad further would be taken, that Ebs was a serious candidate, and to hang tight for that afternoon until the board had met.
  • An ecstatic Eze later received a call that not only had the board agreed that Eze should be pursued, but that they had got right on the phone with Palace, and the deal had been finalized.
  • Palace were happier selling Eze to us than to the spuds. Parish (their Chairman) has a good relationship with us. And despite eventually agreeing completely to Palace's demands, the negotiations between Parish and Levy over the Eze deal had left a bad taste in the Palace chairman's mouth due to the fractious nature of the early discussions.
  • Our board's concerns over financial repercussions of us spending too much we put to the side for Eze, with the feeling being that now was not the time to be cautious.
  • Eze himself had spoken with England teammates who play for us and had asked them to put in a good word for him. But in the end that was not needed.
  • Arteta has been growing increasingly enamoured with the idea of bringing Eze in. He was very impressed with Ebs' personality and passion, and felt that he could bring a whole new dimension to the squad.

Really hope this works out as I'd love to see him playing for us (again). Sounds very likely now. But if we do pip the shit to him, they'll need to issue a flood warning for the toilet bowl area. The white part of North London is about to be flooded with a deluge of salty, bitter tears!

Interesting insights into how Berta's arrival combined with lingering concerns about Sesko's price and readiness caused us to pivot from Sesko to Gyorkeres as the primary frontman target.

A new multi-stage malware campaign is targeting Minecraft users with a Java-based malware that employs a distribution-as-service (DaaS) offering called Stargazers Ghost Network.

"The malware was impersonating Oringo and Taunahi, which are 'Scripts and macros tools' (aka cheats). Both the first and second stages are developed in Java and can only be executed if the Minecraft runtime is installed on the host machine."

I keep reading on articles, even those from this year, that Signal has an offline communications ability.

The articles talk about "Signal Offline" as an app. But that seems the same as the main Signal app?

Additionally, is there some functionality in Signal that allows you to connect with nearby users in the event when WiFi and cellular networks are down (like via some sort of a mesh network approach or Bluetooth)?

Edit: Thanks for the information to those who replied.

The instance this community moved to is shutting down, and for some reason the voting options didn't include moving the community to lemmy.world. So now it's moving yet again to some other instance.

Given this turn off events, why not just resurrect it here?
