General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

How people have voted for someone who shows such disrespect for the place he represents I don't know

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 54 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Have you watched any of the videos of the people in Clacton?

Too many boomers practically jizzing in their shorts at the prospect of the Royal Navy sinking migrant boats.

They don't care that Reform would sell of the NHS and raid their pensions, as long as the brown people are abused and kicked out.

The clips have been pretty bad. There's been a element of only interviewing those who are confirmed reform supporters.

Anyone with a different attitude got shot down sharpish by the reporters.

Ofcom needs to investigate the coverage of the by election.

I've heard similar about "man on the street interviews" being staged or the participants vetted.

Ofcom should be looking into it.

57% didn't vote. Britlanders get the government they deserve.

Brave Sir Frogface ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Frogface turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Frogface!

What a wimp.

[–] BucketBong@p.hobo.social 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, because you're gonna lose to dude with a trash can on his head...

I don’t think he will loose the election, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a looser.

If he wins by a landslide, he will still have the enquiry into his cryptobro bribe. If he almost looses, he almost lost to a bloke with a bin on his head.

Edit: Results are in: BinFace had just under 1/3rd of the votes, Fascist Scam Artist had just over 2/3rd of the votes, did not attend the count and did not give a victory speech. Utter contempt for his constituents.

"loose" is the opposite of tight.

"lose" (one O) is the opposite of win.

[–] alibloke@feddit.uk 14 points 1 week ago

I'm glad someone said it. Makes my eye twitch

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 1 week ago

Well, FarReich is also a loose cunt, given all the foreign interest dick he keeps taking.

^disclaimer: only proverbial vaginas like Ser Frogface, can become loose. Biological vaginas do NOT.^

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Quite disappointing that it was only a 44% voter turnout with all the publicity around it.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Absolutely. But the good news is that there is no possible way that he can argue that he has a mandate.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

He'll do it anyway. The government argued they had a full Brexit mandate when it was literally 52%

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

But he still will.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well, I guess a lot of people couldn't bring themselves to vote for either the ridiculous joke candidate or for the one with a bin over his head.

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 19 points 1 week ago

Almost 9.5k people made the point they'd rather have a novelty candidate in charge than a charlatan. And honestly I think Binface would have been a good MP. Sure, the bar is low compared to Froggie.

Whatever the result had been, Five Mil Fashy would have lost.

Let the investigations (re)commence!

BinFace had just under 1/3rd of the votes, Fascist Scam Artist had just over 2/3rd of the votes

That's it. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 week ago

Let's book our tickets to Sigma IX.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

It's not over yet, Binface will duel wanker for round 2.

[–] BucketBong@p.hobo.social 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Well that sucks, I really wanted that to happen.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 17 points 1 week ago

This is the highest percentage of the vote that an absurdist candidate has ever captured. I would count that as a win.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Chad Binface is happy with just one sensible vote.

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

He didn't increase his lead either it's pretty much the same result

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The establishment: "Count Binface"

The man could have easily just played it off in good fun and taken selfies with him or something. But no, can't barrage the farage I guess. Probably wasn't even in the constituency 🤣

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Stayed at home apparently. He was scared he would look bad.... 😬

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 7 points 1 week ago

£5,000,000 still can't buy security against that

[–] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

One of Count Binface's campaign managers (StandUpMaths) made a campaign video that showed a bunch of MPs expressing support for Count Binface.

Count Binface objectively was the establishment candidate in this election, and I honestly think it worked against him.

[–] Manalith@midwest.social 1 points 1 week ago

Honestly though, he may not have won, but I wouldn't necessarily call this a loss, I mean damn near 10,000 votes for a trash bin is impressive.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago

Clacton must be fuuuucked that they still voted for Baron Greenback, even with no serious competition.

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago
[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Wanker reform fumbles again.

not really any different from how he doesn't bother to show up in clacton as an mp

[–] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I saw this episode of black mirror.

[–] like@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago

I read this thing in the guardian about how it's unfair to call everyone in Clacton credulous fuckwits:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/aug/12/farage-clacton-human-zoo-truth-town

You’re all thick, racist, gullible, hateful, toothless, jobless old fools, we were told. You deserve him. The worst of the snobbery was, sadly, on my lefty social media platform of choice, Bluesky

Oh no not bluesky! You musn't generalise! Some of us are ok!

Fuck that, nuke Clacton
