Fun fact: in my native language the word for a pit (as in a hard central fruit seed) is directly translated as "little bone" so depending on who you ask, avocados indeed do have bones :3

Lithuanian :3

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 4 points 2 weeks ago

Same in Russian, and I believe this is the original source of confusion :)

In some languages, hard seeds and bones are described by related words

I guess if they can make boneless grapes then they can also make boneless avocados

[–] tja@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

grapes don't have bones....

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes because they remove them!

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Grape deboner, a thankless job... :(

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

And don't get me started about olives!

[–] DonGirses@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

if it ain't got bone in it

b o n e l e s s

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

So then my bones are boneless bones because they don't have bones in them.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But then how do your bones bone bonelessly?

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

They got a little blue pill for that

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 weeks ago

Kinda surprised people were saying "dead ass" in 2017. For some reason I thought that was more recent.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Did you know that 2017 is closer to the fall of Troy than it is to today?

(Edit: I looked it up, and it seems that it isn't true)

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Potato was always boneless.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I bet that'd feel better than a grapefruit.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

The bones are the meme, but I want to know which branch of which tree in which orchard grew that seedless avocado. Because grafts.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I see fruit labeled all the time as gluten free at grocery stores.

Fyi for those who don't know. Gluten is created from wheat.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s a valid statement, stupidly enough.

A family friend once had a gluten reaction from fruit. Turns out, the caterer presented it with a spray over them that makes them shinier - and that has gluten in it.

[–] Wxfisch@piefed.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The spray also helps to maintain freshness longer, so it’s not just a “pretty fruit sells better” tactic. Though it should be stickered if it’s coated and that coating is wheat derived (not all are).

I have family with Coeliac and friends with other issues. Cross-contamination is real problem for some.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 2 weeks ago

As somebody who has bitten in to a bone in a boneless chicken sandwich at KFC - on two different occasions, months apart - I for one appreciate boneless food no matter what form it's in. Boneless chicken? Perfect. Boneless avocado? Sure. Boneless raspberries? Absolutely. Boneless applesauce? I sure as hell hope so.

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 3 points 2 weeks ago

Wait until you hear about the Gluten Free Tax Filing Service

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 weeks ago

He isn't wrong.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

My boner is boneless.

[–] wador@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Avocado without an I.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Like a modern computer mouse. Balless. Optical avacado.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The only food i like to eat with the bone still in, is burritos

[–] Iusedtobeanalien@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

They're not boners

They're testecados

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 weeks ago

See, this is why you

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

my aunt used to try to sprout those seeds in a water jar
