Can't expect kids to understand something like. Also I doubt those teachers expect that kind of empathy and compassion from people with incomplete brains.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

gruelling job with little praise

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

And that's even before they have to deal with parents who think their little precious child acting like an out of control chimp with rabbies in a classroom is absolutelly normal.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

So, you do expect it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel like shit. My high schoolers said all kinds of horrific nasty shit about me because I was clearly gay, including graphic and specific discussions about my supposed inability to pleasure a woman, which was stupid - but in any other context that would be considered a hostile workplace environment and wouldn’t be tolerated.

Now I mostly work with younger kids, and they do not have a filter. They say things that hurt. When they say those things, I can certainly acknowledge that they don’t have the level of empathy and compassion that an adult has, but that doesn’t mean it feels good.

Teaching and working with kids leads to emotional burnout. You can only handle those sorts of comments so much before it starts to fuck with you, especially if you lack a support system elsewhere.

We shouldn’t expect teachers to be Jesus. At least not when the pay is so shit that most have to have a second job (which also does not help on the burnout end).

This meme is soooooooooo old. I remember commenting about how "it's" is really stupid and should be "their" instead. Maybe it was even back on reddit, which would mean this is a repost of a 3+ yo meme. I know this is true for a lot of memes but its insane that i remember this specific one.

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

tbh.. 3y is not something i would call old in this context ;)

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 6 points 3 weeks ago

I know right, it's "its".

Not only do they refer to the teacher as an it, they didn't even pay attention to the rules about apostrophes.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

I don't think that's what they meant when they were asking for more inclusive speech XD

*I make that mistake too, English is my 2nd language

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 20 points 3 weeks ago

"it's" is funny AF

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Teachers are "its" now, eh?

Should have mentioned it to the parents, it only takes a couple parents’ donations to pay for the whole thing and increase the amount of food by a bunch.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Elon could pay for pizza parties for every classroom on Earth with less impact on his finances than a penny is worth to that teacher. How fucked up we have become.

[–] bacon_pdp@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well yes but Billionaires and Trillionaires should not exist. The polite option is take everything over $999 million and give them a little certificate for having won at capitalism.

The unkind option is just to kill them immediately once they exceed $100 million.

Both options are valid, we should give them the option of choosing which one they receive; out of kindness of course. Should they reject both, we can choose for them…

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I think killing is too easy. Forced internment in a labor camp so they can experience what they've put others through, along with regular death matches of the top earners in the prison population for the entertainment of the people seems more fitting to me.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Bro, the parents at the school I taught at had the schools number blocked (if they had cell service at all) because they didn’t want to hear about their children beating the shit out of other children, or destroying school property, or smoking pot….

I had a pizza party once. I got paid $2200 a month and already spent at least $50 a month on supplies (kinda hard to teach chemistry if you don’t have chemicals…) I gave one of my class a pizza party, spent more than a hundred dollars.

Did any of them thank me? LOL. No, they complained because they could only have one slice.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] Emerald@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Should spent pizza money grammar some lessons

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

No way major pizza chains could afford free pizza party once a year.

Dominos and little Caesars squeaked by with $5B in revenue last year.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Not to be ungrateful, Mrs Applegate, but Hot n Readys are like $8, do we need to help you organize a strike?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

look up the salaries of teachers in your district. they are publicly available as public employee salaries are publicly posted somewhere on the government website. see how they could probably earn more doing anything else? yeah.

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

My 6th grade teacher paid to take the entire class to Knotts Berry Farm before we 'graduated' from elementary school. The school only paid for the bus and gas afaik.

My point there not being that most teachers should do more, just that my 6th grade teacher was cool as fuck and extremely selfless
