Porn, all porn...

How does gay porn perpetuate degrading views of women? πŸ€”

[–] greybeard@feddit.online 2 points 2 hours ago

It would be funny if a poorly written law accidentally banned all straight porn. I'd laugh.

What about porn which doesn't involve any women?

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What about porn that involves only women?

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What about porn that doesn't involve anyone?

Your post history show a very strong bias towards religious thoughts. Why are you obsessed with porn? Is it because it would help you control women? Have you talked to your psychiatrist about it?

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I believe he's a troll. What religious person uses god as user name?

[–] aaa999@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

You got this from a misandric sub and came here to ragebait.

[–] Allah@piefed.world -2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

it's not misandry, i am man i agree with them

[–] semperverus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

There are plenty of misogynistic women, being a man and agreeing with something doesnt make it not misandric

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 hours ago

We functionally can't. It don't take.

[–] schwim@piefed.zip 19 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

That depends, would it work as well as our efforts of banning guns and drugs?

[–] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 13 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

Banning porn would just mean that it would be produced only by criminals. So what we should do is first ban criminals and only then ban porn.

Surprisingly this is the safest time to be in porn. OnlyFans and others allow sex workers to set their own prices and control what they will and won't do.

[–] semperverus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

And you can ban porn off the internet to varying degrees of success, but the sneakernet is unstoppable.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Even better. Make nothing illegal. Can't have criminals if there is no laws to break

[–] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)
[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

There is already a darknet

[–] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago

Not to worry, I have a torch.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

No

This is the same as "but video games cause real world violence!"

It to mention that boat loads of women get off on porn themselves, great way to act as if pure moral women would never do such depraved things like watch anal porn. Fuck that shit

Stop posting religious propaganda, please

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

Stop posting religious propaganda, please

Looking at OPs username it doesn't seem likely they will

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 hours ago

I don’t care if someone fantasizes about horrible things. I really don’t. Cannot even begin to care.

Bringing that shit I to reality is where I have an issue. Religious people can’t tell the difference between fantasy and reality. They are mentally ill. And in that population porn could be seen as dangerous.

So you rehabilitate the religious people. Done. Fixed.

I can think of a few things that do more to contribute to rape and degrading views of women than porn, which has existed as long as human civilization has:

  • The actual rape that happens in almost every dynamic where authority is involved: manager/employee, student/teacher, coach/athlete, agent/client, in police custody, etc.
  • The instances of actual rape, at best, not being investigated. At worst, the woman becomes subject to harassment, bullying, and smear campaigns
  • The flood of right-wing manosphere propaganda in the YouTube algorithm demonizing feminism
  • Gamergate
  • Churches pushing purity culture
  • Churches forcing women into quiet subservience that keeps them from speaking out against leaders and husbands
  • Politicians passing anti-"DEI" legislation rolling back decades of progress in women's rights
  • Politicians passing legislation in some states to lower the age girls can get married
  • The techno-fascist emphasis on birth rate
  • That school board official sexually harassing an underage girl on camera and nobody in power giving a shit
  • "Grab them by the pussy. When you're a star, they let you do whatever you want."
  • Jeffrey Epstein
[–] charonn0@startrek.website 3 points 3 hours ago

"Expressed greater intent to commit rape"

I would really like to know how they measured this. I get the feeling that the men being studied didn't come out and state, "yes, I have a greater intent to rape" on a survey or something. The researchers must have been using something as a proxy for "intent to rape".

I'd also like to see the stats for how many of the men have actually raped someone. For example, if 86% are rated as "more likely to rape" after watching porn, but 99.9% don't rape anyone, then that would suggest there is no correlation between porn and rape.

[–] tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 hours ago

Its true, mainstream porn is problematic. Banning it is a stupid powerhead solution. Also its already banned on lemmy.world.

[–] Skyline969@piefed.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

No.

No, this isn't Gilead

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

If you want to live in a country that banned porn, feel free to move to People's Republic of China.

(Or I guess Taliban-Controlled Afghanistan is also a good choice)

[–] frischkaesbagett@feddit.org 2 points 3 hours ago

Maybe this is a good post to recommend some ethical porn sites. Proper consent, fair treatment, and transparency are at the forefront of ethical porn sites.

Any other recommendations?

As someone who’s watched a lot of porn, here are some trends that I’ve noticed over the past few years:

  • An abundance of titles emphasizing step or non-blood family relationships.
  • An increase in videos featuring the type of physical abuse alluded to in OP’s post.
  • Increased artificiality in bodies, as in breast/ass augmentation, bodybuilder physiques, overdone makeup, and other features that look unnatural.
  • Sex acts that look more animalistic in nature, with over-the-top vocalizations, uncomfortable positions, and needlessly aggressive action.

Videos of this nature have always been around, so I’m not sure if this is an actual increase in this type of content, or if algorithms are pushing it to the top, or some mixture of both. But none of this is natural, and it’s actually resulted in me watching less because it really does feel exploitative.

That being said, I would not be for any type of ban, or really any type of government interference. It would never work. Sexual morality isn’t something that can be controlled in that way. If people oppose porn content that glorifies abuse or exploitation, then let the public figure out a way to cultivate a social paradigm where this is looked down on.

And if that doesn’t happen…well, everything is a pendulum. Wait it out. But porn will always exist. The only thing I can do is not give a click to the creators of that type of piggish shit.

[–] disregardable@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

Yeah, I'm not thinking banning porn will do a better job addressing that issue than actually educating the young men about how to have positive relationships with women.

[–] statelesz@slrpnk.net 0 points 2 hours ago

What's with the downvotes? This is absolutely a valid question and a valid scientific analysis! It might be a hard pill to swallow, but porn is bad, especially for men's view of women.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago

Research reveals that all flavors of being a Conservative, perpetuate rape and degrading views of women. Can we ban their right to live and their ideology?
