Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

onions are quite tasty when cooked this well

[–] baller_w@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not to nitpick, but the article says Andrew Callaghan is a conservative media personality. IMO he’s far from conservative. I’d appreciate other’s thoughts on this.

His interview series with Hunter is pretty eye opening. Worth a watch.

Also, yes, I would pay to watch Hunter, a former crack addict, absolutely embarrass the silver spoon twins.

[–] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Most of his journalism I would say is left leaning, but he typically avoids the hardline leftist stances. I would assume he gets labelled as conservative due to his willingness to interview pretty much anyone on any side. I would say he’s independent, While you could argue he’s centrist or left leaning, I think it’s safe to say he is not conservative.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure. I do know that he's a sex pest though (at the very least)

[–] sen@lemmy.zip 5 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm generally not an apologist but brother he was like 19 without a fully cooked noodle, has spotlighted what he did wrong, full out publically apologized, and stopped production to (supposedly) work on himself.

Is there no such thing as forgiveness? What else should he do? Would you like him to give you, personally, a literal pound of his flesh?

Pedophiles get the rope. Rapers should be desexed and shunned. Sex pests though? Fucking awful behaviour but the ongoing reaction is unreal.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh shit he took some time off, guys. To work on himself.

Have statements like that ever not been bullshit?

And I'm sorry, but didn't he assault multiple women who were too drunk to consent? I was playing it safe when I said "sex pest" because I hadn't remembered the exact claims. But I just looked into it again, and yeah fuck that dude.

[–] sen@lemmy.zip 2 points 15 hours ago

Yeah, I've read the allegations as well, and you know what it sounds like to me? A 19 year old who grew up with shitty American sex-ed believing that a "soft no" is a real thing.

Again, not trying to downplay this, it's shitty behaviour, but what would you like to see happen?

From what I understand he acknowledged his accusers, denied the one (unnamed accuser) accusation of rape, apologized, and no charges have been filed. So.... what do?

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 159 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You know what, why the fuck not

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

people like Trump's sons/epstein class im general would exist far less often if they got their ass beat in achool atleast once growing up, imo

gotta learn actions have consequences early on

[–] SwifferWetjet@thelemmy.club 47 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I have said more than once that international conflict needs to be resolved by more head of state on head of state boxing matches instead of ridiculous bombing campaigns that mostly kill civilians who, in my experience as one myself, have a near universal opinion of "basically all war is stupid"

I nominate Baron as the Trump champion.

Any time we want to argue against Trump policies we just have to beat the tar out of him to prove our worth.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe if that was a requirement, we'd start getting more presidents like Teddy Roosevelt

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago

Sounds like another step in our descent into President Camacho territory.

[–] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Wasnt that the standard back in medieval times that you fenced it out?

[–] SwifferWetjet@thelemmy.club 2 points 21 hours ago

And yet another reason my wife should be supreme overlord of the world, I see

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

international conflict needs the 'leader' on the front lines.. you want to murder other humans for whatever gain, you pull the trigger

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You got to give Hunter Biden this, he is funny.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Pretty sure he is trolling the UFC at the whitehouse idea.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They better drug test both sides beforehand and if they aren't blitzed out of their minds on coke or crack it's an instant DQ.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

on coke or crack it's an instant DQ

Drug test wise those are 100% the same btw. Don't mind me I'm just pedantic

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, crack is highly concentrated coke, but ya got it cook it up first

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Crack isn't "concentrated" cocaine, it's just freebase cocaine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_base

In chemistry, a free base (freebase, free-base) is a term for the neutral form of an amine or other Lewis base. The term is used in the pharmaceutical industry in contrast to salt-based formulations like hydrochlorides. The amine is often an alkaloid, such as nicotine, morphine, and ephedrine, or derivatives thereof

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Huh, TIL! I kinda thought freebase was just a form of ingestion, didn't think about chem

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

I enjoy your very open attitude. Cheers.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fair enough lol. I just wanted each one to have their drug of choice.

"Conservative" Andrew Callaghan? LOL since when?

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

Shhh, Andrew works very hard to convince that side that they can trust him to do an interview. After the Shirley stuff, he needs something like this to be able to get back behind enemy lines.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The full quote was "conservative media commentator" which I think means he comments on conservative media, not that he is a conservative who is a media commentator. I agree it's confusing wording though.

Would've been better if they just called him a gonzo journalist as he's closer to that then a commentator.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

I don't think anyone would read it to mean that. Also, he interviews just as many people on the left, but mostly people who are....just completely out there.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

OP posted an authorization mouthpiece from one of the countries with the least press freedoms on the entire planet...

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/trt-world/

I didn't give them a click, but I'm sure the whole article is bullshit

This is why we overseas say the problem is within the people, not just Trump.

This is why Trump was elected. Look at this shit.

Anyone else got a flashback of that fight between musk & zuckerberg? So long ago, can't remember who won......

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think Zuckerberg practices MMA and Musk mostly practices manbitching on the internet

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 19 hours ago

I think they are all practicing that

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

tells conservative social media commentator Andrew Callaghan

What fucking idiot thinks Channel 5 is right wing?!

Answer:

The mouthpiece for a fascist authorarian apparently...

In 2024, Reporters Without Borders ranked Turkey 158th in the world for press freedom among 180 countries. According to Reporters Without Borders, “The witch hunt waged by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government against its media critics has come to a head since an abortive coup in July 2016. A state of emergency has allowed the authorities to eliminate dozens of media outlets with the stroke of a pen, reducing pluralism to a handful of low-circulated and targeted publications.”

In review, when reporting non-Turkey-related news, TRT World reports with minimally loaded language and utilizes credible sources such as Vox, Moscow Times, NY Times, Washington Post, Tass and republishes credible news agencies such as Reuters.

TRT World reflects a pro-government tone in its national coverage, as seen through its analysis of the upcoming elections. Most national coverage heavily sided with the ruling party and less coverage of the main opposition party candidate. Further, the UK’s Spectator states TRT World is “President Erdogan’s mouthpiece to woo the west.” In short, this is a pro-government propaganda source.

Although TRT World presents relatively low biased coverage of USA news, such as “Trump cancels summit with Kim; North Korea still wants talks,” they source through large blocks of quotes without providing any links to the sources.

Will they be allowing timeouts for more cocaine?

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 12 points 1 day ago

this... is not helping.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 8 points 1 day ago

I have met Hunter Biden. I will take that bet.

[–] CallMeM@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

I would pay to see that! but yeah, no way they'd actually want to do that fight - they'll dodge it like they dodge responsibility, drafts and intellect.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Can I take hunter’s place to beat the shit out of trump’s sons?

[–] redplayer5@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This must be a simulation.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Yes, probably a simulation to test something stupid.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

"What do you mean we're both not allowed to have someone else fight for us? That's life, that's how it works no? Someone else does everything for me and I get the results! Why is this different!? Communist!!!"
