3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Satellite internet functionality via Starshield — the military version of the SpaceX service — was being at least partially restored Thursday morning, according to a source in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

Ukraine has resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy angrily accused the United States of betraying Kyiv with a “dangerous” withdrawal of support critical to its defense against Russia.

Ukraine held off on attacks for three days after Donald Trump’s unilateral “energy ceasefire” announcement, but accused Russia of repeatedly attacking its power grid. Zelenskyy voiced mounting frustration over the Kremlin’s failure to abide by the truce, and what he sees as U.S. attempts to pressure Kyiv after gaps in intelligence sharing on Russian attacks and restrictions on the Starlink internet service.

Satellite internet functionality via Starshield — the military version of the SpaceX service — was being at least partially restored Thursday, according to a source in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the topic.

In an interview with the Financial Times, published Thursday, Zelenskyy indicated his patience had already been exhausted.

Good. Trump has been playing both sides and half assing this thing from the start. He clearly doesn’t have the balls to make Papa Putin do anything.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 94 points 2 weeks ago

Employees usually don’t make demands of their employers. The instructions only flow from Russia to the GOPedos

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 weeks ago

He's helping Putin quite a bit because they're allies. Not playing both sides, just play pretend.

[–] pirate2377@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago

But also, why would Ukraine follow orders from America when Trump BLATANTLY BACK STABBED THEM. It would be unhinged for us to expect Ukraine to listen to us ever again

Remember when conservatives hated Russia until their programming was changed?

No values beyond bigotry. No consistency beyond stupidity.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Remember when a certain Fox News contributor who goes on TV saying we should be at war with Iran to prevent them from having missiles was charged with illegally selling missiles to Iran in trade for keeping Americans hostage until after the 1980 election?

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Technically he did the treason first, and then got hired by Fox to justify his treason.

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 13 points 2 weeks ago

We should probably tell the whole story. Not to justify his actions, but he did the treason because the President told him to.

Because Russia is no longer a communist country despised by conservatives, but a country larping as conservative that pay lip service to American conservatives to destabilise the West.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (14 children)

Conservatism is and always has been an attempt to return to a form of feudalism, with the rich being the new nobility and everyone else being powerless to resist. In that regard, Russia with its oligarchs is about as conservative as it comes.

Wtf is with this shit expecting Ukraine to treat Russia with kid gloves? They were invaded. As far as I'm concerned they could glass Moscow and I wouldn't give a shit. If we want Russia to be able to deliver oil we should be pressuring them to GTFO of Ukraine so Ukraine has no reason to defend themselves.

Why even entertain any other resolution?

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 52 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because Trump expects some kind of deal out of Ukraine and Russia, that will lead to a new age of prosperity, and in turn, his immortality as a president forever remembered for making America great again. Or Putin has the pee tapes, featuring underage girls, as recorded by Jeffrey Epstein, on Saint Little James.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 31 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I know why Trump's doing it. Why everyone else though? This conflict is talked about as of it were a two way street when it was an aggressive act on the part of Russia.

maga is literally grifters of americans united inc. they're all grifting as much as they can and trump is their literal face on the camera.

[–] redballooon@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

accused Russia of repeatedly attacking its power grid

I hate how journalists use “accused” for both factual statements and lies.

This one can easily be defended by looking back 5days abcnews link

Lemmy called it the moment Trump falsely claimed there was an energy infrastructure cease fire.

(If other communities foresaw it I may just not be aware - I don't mean to say others didn't see the obvious, too)

Understand one very important thing that's happening here: stopping Russia at this point in time benefits the entire planet.

They've been going around attacking countries, killing people, and slaughtering civilians for decades with absolutely no meaningful pushback from anyone.

Ukraine is simply able to push back.

Of course, the problem is that stopping Russia doesn't benefit a very small group of people, and that's evident by Trump's behavior. This very small group of people is willing to do literally anything and everything to protect what they have, purely for their own selfish purposes and nothing more.

It's obvious that Zelensky is no longer playing ball with this nonsense of the 1% doing whatever the hell they want. Good for him. It's time to put these people in their place and take their money away from them.

Sure, I’m not even going to disagree with you, except for the fact that we weren’t talking about the US in this post.

As a matter of fact, I was admonishing the US and its decision to betray the Ukrainians.

I will say this, however: regardless of how you feel about the US and your animosity toward it, Ukraine has been able to defend itself against Russia, in large part, because of the support it received from the United States.

Russia is a threat not just to the US, but to the rest of the world as well.

And as bad as the US really is, you’ll get no argument from me on that point, but we still have the capacity to do the right thing, at least to some degree. Keep in mind that this current administration is, in my opinion, the worst I’ve ever seen in my lifetime, and I’ve lived through quite a few presidents.

Thank you President Zelenskyy! I wish you the best of luck, skill and determination to shove that Russian fucker to a cell in Siberia.

Thanks for the data center too. Know where any more are?

Wish we had a Zelenskyy in the white House and not the festering pile of orange shit we currently have.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Y'know if we had to keep the orange part I'd be thrilled to have a literal orangutan in the seat. I'm sure they'd be smarter, more compassionate, and certainly less ghastly painful to behold with the eyes.

resumes strikes

Did they actually stop? Trump made some noise about a pause, but I haven't seen any evidence of a break in the fighting.

Zelenskyy voiced mounting frustration over the Kremlin’s failure to abide by the truce

What truce? Nobody in Ukraine or Russia negotiated a truce. Russian diplomats simply told Trump that they couldn't ship gas until Ukraine backed down. And then Trump threw a hissy fit at his Ukrainian counterparts, because that's how Trump engages with an "ally" diplomatically.

Satellite internet functionality via Starshield — the military version of the SpaceX service — was being at least partially restored Thursday, according to a source in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the topic.

It still boggles my mind that anyone in Ukraine can consider StarLink a reliable partner in this conflict. I have to wonder how many dead Ukrainians are attributable to sudden and unannounced suspensions of service by Elon Musk's premier global telecom.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Sadly the Ukrainians have no choice. They don't have any other similar service they can rely on, unless they or the EU build something similar.

Starlink is super cheap compared to other means of communication, plus high bandwidth. Its not like there are no other options, but they have higher price tag and might be less reliable due to untested tech.

Starlink is an advantage on the battlefield, would be stupid not to use it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (11 children)

Can someone tell me why the right wing and the "independents"/reactionary centrists keep claiming that ties between donnie and Russia are a "hoax"?

Most of the "liberal media" now seems to have that stance, pretending that butthurt rightwing claims of how mean the "liberal media" was to donnie back in 2016 over his Russian ties is a legit grievance of how the media went overboard, or "fell for" something, etc.?

If "Liberal Media" doesn't oppose Trump and Russia then it isn't Liberal. Factual reporting has revealed Trump Russia ties since the Meuller investigation sentenced his campaign team.

I can only see a future where Ukraine weens off of American support and finds alternatives elsewhere in nations that not only are on significantly friendlier terms, but more reliable ones as well. It'll come to no surprise to me if other nations that buy from our contractors start to do less of that as well.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Starlink needs to be nationalised... Or .. Um.. UNised?

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago

It's kind of going on the reverse. The US is kind of being subsumed into Musk Inc.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

Carry on Ukraine. Fuck MAGA and their Russian masters. This proves, further, that the current US administration is completely unreliable and untrustworthy. I would not purchase US made weapon systems until the MAGA turds are gone.
