Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Fan theory: survivors of the Thanos snap still had half of their gut biome randomly die, so for the week following the snap, basically everything with a digestive tract had explosive diarrhea.

[–] howrar@lemmy.ca 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And again when everyone was brought back, including the gut bacteria.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Twist: The Gut Bacteria was brought back to its origin point. Not into your stomach wherever you happened to be years later.

[–] Snowwdropp@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 months ago

But then people would've come back in the middle of space since the Solar System moves

[–] Vreyan31@reddthat.com 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Gut bacteria divide rapidly because they are constantly getting flushed out.

If you remove half, I think your gut would recover in like 15 minutes.

You are probably removing a far higher proportion any time you eat a really high fiber meal

If this were true. Antibiotics wouldn't be such a problem for Gut health...But they are???

[–] Doom@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (3 children)

That's because antibiotics carpet bomb everything. If they didn't they'd be pretty pointless. Hell, part of the reason antibiotics are losing efficiency is because either due to poor use or over use - there are survivors after they are deployed.

Monkey's Infinity Paw

cuts everyone in half

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 57 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Good point, now do conjoined twins.

[–] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Someone might feel lonely or relieved. I wonder how many conjoined twins are good at just accepting how they are vs the ones that argue with each other. There's one in my area and they are the happiest people. They just passed away but they were always getting along according to interviews.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago

There's one in my area and they're the....

Yes they can obviously be used singularly, but around the context of conjoined twins my brain enjoyed the choice of terms.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Tbh if you were interviewed by the news. Would you tell the news that you don't get along with the person you are literally joined to the hip with?

It's not like you can do one of those cut-away video side interviews. She is always there.

Also why invite them into your dirty laundry? Being on the news is a big event for most people. Your coworkers, your family, and friends are going to watch you.

[–] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Good insight.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

They bleed out because those pesky shared organs are important

[–] mysticalone@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

So they both die? Half immediately and other when they return to the corpse? Also this would be 2 removed, so do the stones take this into consideration or are they inaccurate?

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The people snapped don't die. That's why they can be brought back.

But there are plenty of alternatives. The conjoined twins count as "one person". Alternatively the stones are aware enough to avoid snapping like this. The stone takes 2 "normal" people for every conjoined lifeform

Though to be honest, Thanos didn't care about any of the subtext like pilots, or driving car, so I don't think he would care enough to will these edge cases.

Oh, my god. That woman engulfed a baby like a python and then Thanos saved it.

[–] kyonshi@dice.camp 9 points 4 months ago

@sunsofold @HonoraryMancunian guys, I think this Thanos guy might be some sort of hero!

*CHANTING* Thanos! Thanos! THANOS!

[–] Damage@feddit.it 20 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Never really understood why Thanos thought this action would provoke much change besides killing a shit ton of life.

[–] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 16 points 4 months ago (2 children)

There are a bunch of different versions of Thanos in the comics. This version was whatever Marvel thought would put butts in seats. The rationale is that he survived a famine and his dumb little brain thought the best way to help others avoid famine was to disappear a bunch of them randomly lol. He didn't even make all superheroes that wanted to kill him disappear. Total idiot.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

Yeah, I like the version where he has a crush on Death and wants to impress her by killing half the people in the universe.

But I think they wanted to set up an infinity war where he deserved to win, which IMO he absolutely did. I was disliking it the first time I watched because I expected it to do the typical hero movie thing where the heroes pull off a win even after fumbling things as hard as they did in infinity war, but then he did the snap. Advantage of not paying attention to their plans, as I wasn't aware that there was going to be a second part until I saw how that ended, so it was a surprise.

But all he really did was turn back the doom clock by one doubling period. You can't stop exponential growth with a single cull, unless that cull is pretty much 100% (or leaves the remnants so scattered they age out of reproduction age before uniting).

Yeah I suppose I shouldn’t take comic books or their movies too rationally. I’ll turn my brain off and enjoy it for what it is.

"The Snap" by Loading Ready Run

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 4 months ago

So there was this show, The Leftovers…

[–] IPeaceInYourFace@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well, the alternative was a lot more macabre. That would've been a controversial move as an artist.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 36 points 4 months ago

Do you think the ash cloud would just pour out of her like a dusty queef?

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

This brings up the question: what is the cutoff point for the age of a fetus to be considered an individual life which could be killed by Thanos' snap?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

I guess that depends on what religion Thanos followed since it very much was dependent on his personal wishes.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 5 points 4 months ago

Republican Thanos would snap off at the penis during first penetration

[–] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 2 points 4 months ago

Thanos is a man of science, so it must be picking out the ones that would survive on their own outside of the womb. (Lol I'm talking right out of my butt on this one.)

Random sperm and eggs just sitting on the sidewalk.

[–] hanke@feddit.nu 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I don't really get this one

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It's a reference to one of the marvel movies in which thanos kills half of humanity by randomly disintegrating people. In this case the mother is disintegrated but the baby not.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ahem, half of all the life in the universeβ˜οΈπŸ€“

[–] sunsofold@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 months ago (5 children)

That's another part I don't remember seeing. Why didn't half the trees ash away in the forest? What about things where there's no good line between where 'one' ends and 'another' begins like fungal mycelium? Since all humans are composed of living cells, shouldn't half of the cells die?

[–] Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I always thought it was a dumb plot point, but obviously it's whatever "half" definition however Thanos thought of it. So probably just half of sentient creatures, or something. The point is, the answer is whatever Thanos wanted.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

In my head canon, there's some species out there that didn't ever get Thanos snapped. Why? Because he commanded the stones to randomly dust half the people in the universe. And it turns out that Thanos is just really racist against that one species and subconsciously didn't consider them to be people.

[–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Well it for sure killed my entire "Suspension of disbelief".

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Counter argument- β€œhalf of all life removed at random” isn’t β€œhalf of all life planet to planet”. Maybe all our flora survived and another lost the balance. You could theoretically have a planet that lost absolutely nothing but several others were wiped out entirely to balance that.

Aha, okay. I've seen the movie, but the reference wasn't that clear to me πŸ˜„

Thanks for explaining though!
