Woah. Didn't hear about that. I (nearly literally) live under a rock with some isopods, though, so that might explain why. Turns out two things can be true: you can be a giant piece of shit, and still have the occasional good take, I guess.

The people need to know! The people also need pictures. I'll go first:

Hey, behaviour wise, what do they most resemble? Do they recognise you? Do they like cuddling or any form of affection like other pets? Are they food driven? Can you teach them tricks or otherwise train them?

[–] Anne@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

OMG it's so pretty! Does this surprisingly cute creature have a common name, or just isopod?

It's giving me eyeshadow inspo haha she's got my ideal pale princess colors.

Dave Chappelle was lying about growing up in a sketchy neighborhood because it was good for his image.

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dave did grow up in a sketchy neighborhood. Have you seen Yellow Springs? You can't throw a rock without hitting an artist. Those hippies are always sketching something

Really good weed there too

[–] TargaryenTKE@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do artists only live in sketchy neighborhoods? Or am I missing some sarcasm or something

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Sarcasm. Actually, a pun.

Artists.

Sketchy.

Sketching.

Like, you know, a quick drawing.

I'll^see^myself^out

eta: and Yellow Springs, Ohio is a quiet little liberal town in the middle of deep red Trump cuntry, and is about as dangerous as Bergen when the sun is out

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I wouldn't even call it the middle of deep red country. It's a day trip from Columbus (blue), Dayton (light blue), and kinda a schlep but doable from Cincinnati (blue). Its immediate surroundings are deep red except Springfield. But it's in the path of the 3 Cs

It's also where the republican party was formed, but that's because ohio really fucking hated slavery at the time.

It is kinda dangerous if you try to start shit at peaches. But yeah the danger is a single biker bar and the occasional fascist looking to start shit. Oh and quite a bit of drugs, but hippie drugs not the meth and heroin problem neighboring towns have.

Yeah the guy is a huge piece of shit, so let's not try to rewrite history by spreading nice little stories made to make him look good.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 45 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why are people allergic to the idea that bad people can say good and correct things too

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hitler loved to play with kittens! He carried them around in his shirt pockets to keep them cozy and warm.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Hitler loved dogs. Now think about how Trump is the only US president to have no pets, and dislike animals. Trump has less empathy — is more sociopathic — than Hitler.

Hitler also didn't rape kids.

I do not like this picture, Charlie. It's smug aura mocks me!

Everyone says good stuff once in a while, so why focus on the pieces of shit exactly?

[–] Soulg@ani.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Why is quoting a good thing they said somehow interpreted as rewriting history, especially when it's actually true that they said it? That's almost by definition, not "rewriting" history

Louis CK is also a piece of shit, but he said similarly true things about men and women. Ask him how he knows.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

Stopped clock

[–] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago (8 children)

What if it's just a good joke from early in his career which resonates with people, and reposting some of his better work doesn't actually mean you're writing history

[–] Solumbran@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

It's advertising him, and why would you want to do that?

Is this the same guy who at a show brought out his friend Elon Musk to loud BOOs, then snap that the BOOs were only coming from the cheap seats, ie "poor" people? The sooner Chapelle is forgotten the better for humanity. Every anecdote he tells about his past is a complete fabrication. One year he tells his parents died when he was young, the next year he will tell you about the lavish vacation he can afford to send them on. And when he gets called out on his bullshit he cowardly runs away to africa to let his PR people spin it as a sympathetic moment.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 60 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Dave chapelle kinda sucks shit. Still a well articulated point.

Dave Chapelle is a piece of bigoted shit and I will never let him live that down.

Preemptively dissing disagreements is so fucking stupid. But I guess it drives engagement? Anyways, fuck Dave Chapelle.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh look, a piece of shit needed to relate a commonly understood concept to money just to understand it.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 51 points 2 weeks ago

To be fair, he's not saying that's how he learned to understand it. He's using it as a way to help other people understand it. And the type of people who need the help probably understand the analogy.

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dude was seventeen, be serious

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Seventeen when he had the money, not when he said that in the special. He never said definitively when he made the connection between the two. For all we know it wasn't until he was writing the special and needed a segue and went "damn".

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Who has a 25K worth pussy?

[–] Encephalotrocity@feddit.online 14 points 2 weeks ago

According to the judge: my ex wife.

[–] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I have spent more than 25k on my wife in the last 20 years...

The important part is how people are definitely not reactionary nowadays, Our intellect has grown, we are evolving! We can tell, because we are always correct now, and always on moral high ground. Obviously. Anyone who would even question that is ignorant. We know this so deeply it evokes rage when anyone is ignorant enough to question what we know. It is obvious we were inherently on the correct side, because we actually took the time to figure it out and they just go with the stupid things they feel or have naively just accepted without questions. This is why they all need to shut up, and they all need to go. I mean, if they would just listen for a second or do some research like we did but no, their refusal to do so just proves their ignorance. I don't want to say we're superior, but you know, we just know more because we put in more work.
