Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The brain drain in every department is obvious. How does a building with several of US's move powerful "leaders" get breached this easily. I see only two ways this happens. One: it was staged in some way. Two: incompetent people have taken hold so deeply something stupid like a door was left open and unguarded.

Putting on the thinnest tinfoil hat: “This is why we need the ballroom!”

And “California is where the terrorists come from!”

Did he find a way to blame trans people yet?

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

A trans immigrant

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm surprised they didn't pick Portland, OR.

[–] VinegarChunks@lemmus.org 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Did it get breached? I’m reading some places that the shooter was stopped far from the event, on a different floor of the hotel, outside of a security check he would have had to get through to get to the event.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes. That's true but that's still a massive security breach! It's not like this event was scheduled the day before. They simply could have done a number of things to prevent what looks like what happened. I know nothing about security but why wouldn't they screen every person who's stay overlapped with the event. Why wouldn't they at the very least ensure no guest were allowed in the building during the event? If imagine in the past every room and inch of the building was searched and researched before and during the event. I mean this administration is searching tourists social media before they enter the country and you're telling me no one involved with security background checked the hotel guest list? No one ran the belongings of those guests through the mobile xray and metal detectors? This is a huge fuck up.

[–] VinegarChunks@lemmus.org 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Did the shooter have a criminal history to screen for? I haven’t heard that if there was.

I think it would be infeasible to physically search the luggage of potentially thousands of people staying at the hotel. And they can’t tell all the hotel guests they can’t go into the hotel they paid for.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

There were reports hotel guest were mixed in with event guests.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

No, it's just a regular guy with no signs of mental illness. At some point during a rise of fascism regular people start attempting to take one for the team.

Anyone have an explanation yet on why he was naked on the floor? Did he run naked from his room to make it harder to grab him or did they strip him down?

[–] DreadPirateSnuggles@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago

Could be both.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

If it were staged why would they leave him alive? Incompetence is the easiest and simplest answer.

[–] napoleonsdumbcousin@feddit.org 52 points 3 weeks ago (8 children)

Tinfoil hat answer: The fact that he is alive and did not even catch a bullet shows that it was staged. You want to tell me a guy with a shotgun runs towards American police officers and nobody even shoots him? Sounds fake. They must have had orders to not actually shoot him, stage a small gunfight and then just arrest him. The guy probably got a good paycheck for his upcoming prison time.

[–] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 57 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

It really is funny how rampage shooters get apprehended alive, while traffic stops escalate into executions

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 22 points 3 weeks ago

This made me laugh. Then I got sad. :(

[–] bassad@jlai.lu 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Special forces are selected and trained, not traffic cops with ego issues, I guess

White rampage shooters.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The DC, capitol, and federal police are generally better trained, and they're unlikely to start shooting at a sprinting target when there's a bunch of bystanders beyond him. All it takes is one guy to clothesline him.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They did shoot, though. They just missed a lot.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm betting that the one agent that was shot, was shot by friendly fire.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

American police are only good at shooting unarmed people. When faced with an actual real threat, they're cowards.

[–] napoleonsdumbcousin@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

How did they arrest him then?

Who can even tell. American police give stormtroopers a run for their money. They're always shooting each other by accident or detained people in the back or at acorns falling from trees.

If it were staged why would they tell the patsy that?

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Which means if not staged then Trump and his administration should fear for their lives every minute. Because if real then a well planned assassination attempt with someone or (government) could accomplish it. Think if your part of foreign government allies and especially our enemies just how fucking dumb this makes us look.

I still with staged or allowed to happen. No way a true assassin could have done this. Our government tracks everything we do and say. How would you plan something like this without research on the internet? We will find out he had this all planned and made mention of it if not once but multiple times on one of his socials. Yet he was still able to get this close.

Why I call bullshit with all these so call assassination attempts.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Why I call bullshit with all these so call assassination attempts

Armchair expert calls all of history fake

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heads_of_state_and_government_who_were_assassinated_or_executed#List

How much is that bridge, because I don't believe you could actually ever fool anyone into anything.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

How would you plan something like this without research on the internet?

Local AI. It's like having the entire internet on a single machine.

It's also not that hard to use VPNs, tor, library internet, retail hotspots, etc...

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

I mean he only had a chance of 32.3 percent, repeating of course.

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 53 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Not trans, not a drag queen. A good "christian" fellow.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 34 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He ran in shooting, shirtless? Rambo style??

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/945530/Bohrdom/ <- This game was made by Cole Tomas Allen, if you want to support it.

[–] Bubs12@lemmy.cafe 39 points 3 weeks ago

This is the best review of it that I saw:

Decided to pull the trigger, and give this game a shot.
Not the most competent shooter. It feels rushed, and the strategic elements are poorly planned out. With a bit more time and thought, I think the lone developer may have achieved their aims.
It was a good attempt, but better luck next time. I look forward to this developers next project, whenever that appears. Probably in about 25 years to life.

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

When are they gonna frog march him in the open like Luigi?

Not exactly John Wick, is he.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

Suspected? I mean, I hate to be real here but I'm pretty sure it's obvious who it was this time.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago
