That one makes me cry lol
Most of the stuff that comes to mind is already on your list.
Maybe you'd like the movie, Colorful, or the series Your Lie in April?
This is a stretch, but maybe also consider Shin Sekai Yori? The particular things that'll hit you there are, uh, a bit different though, if it works on you.
Troll Answer: School Days. 👹️
Shin Sekai Yori is a goddamn semitruck to my emotions good gods.
Not really a fan of the nihilistic messaging but I gotta say I still appreciate the art, craft, and effort the animators and writers put into the creation of SSY. Also the ending is like peak🤌 especially after some of the episodes where I just sat in shock, horror, and emptiness as it played me out.
School Days😬🤮
School Days😬🤮
It's rare that a show makes me that mad, and the ending is unforgettable, but I'm pretty sure it's not quite the same kind of emotional payoff that OP's looking for... so, "Troll Answer". ;-)
Agreed👍
School Days
Nice boat
Your Name has pretty good feelies
Some that I haven't seen others suggest yet would be The Tale of The Princess Kaguya by Studio Ghibli and the recently-aired Apocalypse Hotel.
- Eureka Seven
- Metropolis 2001
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
- Bocchi the Rock!
- UN-GO
- Time of Eve / Eve no Jikan
- Eden of the East / Higashi no Eden
- Porter Robinson, Madeon, and A-1 Picture's Short Film - [Shelter]
- [C] - Control
- Iron Blooded Orphans
- Princess Principal
- A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako's Feet / Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru
Angel Beats
Emotional, yes.
Payoff? IMO, not sufficiently.
I debated mentioning Eureka Seven in my comment...
Just because it's pretty long and has multiple arcs, each of which have good payoffs.
It's a good pick tho. It delivers on the level of expectation that it sets up.
The biggest issue with Eureka Seven is that it starts really slow, but unfortunately plenty of people have bounced off because of that. Very unfortunate.
Redline is one of my favorite anime, but I've never seen it described as "emotional" before.
Points to profile picture
Legend of The Galactic Heroes. It's a slow burn, but it has dozens of characters and many of them have emotionally satisfying arcs.
I find stories where the main character(s) persevered through great struggles, and got rewarded at the end for it, have the best emotional payoff.
You have watched so many anime. The best that I can recommend - that you haven't complete - is Umamusume - season 2. IMO it's possible to follow the plot even if you skip season 1.
Seirei no Moribito : Guardian of the Spirits and So Ra No Wo To : Sound of the Sky (episode 10 is a bit of a gut punch though)
Clannad, more specifically Clannad After Story.
We haven't seen the second season yet...
But Dungeon Meshi has a fantastic ending. Once the full series is adapated, it will no doubt be an all-time-favorite for many.
Death Parade
Gurren Lagann
Also how tf has no-one mentioned KATANAGATARI.
Dungeon Meshi is so good, i cannot wait for season 2. I haven't read the manga but season 1 was incredible.
How you gonna be out here suggesting Death Parade when it doesn't have a proper end, and you develop a deep dark pit of wanting more but will never get any :P
- Girls Band Cry (girl band)
- The Dangers in My Heart (romcom)
- Medalist (sports comedy)
All involve writer Jukki Hanata, who worked on "A Place Further Than The Universe" I'm pretty sure, and are all emotional bangers.
- Gurren Lagann (robits and oppression / rebellion)
- Kill la Kill (fashion and authority / conformity, my favorite anime of all time)
These two are my favorite action shows, strong political overtones and actual ends to the stories, very satisfying. Same creator for both.
Medalist (sports comedy)
I always looked at it as more of a sports drama with some really good comedic moments. Either way, top-tier show. Looking forward to Season 2 this January!
Yeah you could go either way, it handles tone control excellently. It's got everything!
Winter season looking pretty good, I'm excited for Medalist and Frieren the most. I need to catch up on Oshi No Ko that's coming back too
Dead Dead Demon's DeDeDeDe Destruction
Tonari No Yokai-san A heart warming take on an alternate universe where Yokai, Japanese mythological critters, live and work alongside regular humans. We see them get involved in regular life, and mythological events. It's really great!
To your eternity is great and has another season coming in the next year.
