Steam and Itch.io removing games, likely targeting some NSFW visual novels (ani.social)

Essentially, Steam (check rule 15) and itch.io are getting rid of/delisting content that payment processors don't want to process. (It's mostly adult content.)

This website has more information on what will happen if you own a game that gets delisted, and how to get it back if at all. I would personally recommend downloading it and backing it up somewhere, especially for itch.io which is not listed on the website.

A video with link sources for its information in the description validates this. If you just want to click a link here instead of going to the video, here's one for Steam and one for itch.io.

Official announcement:

As many of you have already suspected, the VNDB.org has lost its founder and soul Yorhel, who has passed away on 17 March 2026. He will be dearly missed by the moderation team and by the fans of visual novels. He was a great friend and a great boss.

Initially I wanted to wait a bit with the announcement until the moderation team can provide more information about the future of the website, however the rumour mill has forced my hand. At the moment I can only say that we are working on certain channels to preserve the website, but cannot give much information today.

Hello PixelFaders,

After an incredible journey making OELVNs, we have decided that the time has come to retire PixelFade Studio. This was not a decision made lightly, but one we are making with full hearts. We are incredibly proud of the worlds we’ve built and the stories we’ve had the pleasure of sharing with you.

As we move toward closing this chapter, we want to let you know that our games will be removed from sale starting next month. If you have already purchased our games, you will generally continue to have access to download and play them through your library.

Looking back, this journey has been nothing short of amazing. We started with a passion for visual novels and a desire to create something special, but it was all of you who believed in us that let us breathe life into our work. Your overwhelming support allowed us to grow and dream bigger than we ever thought possible.

We are happy to be wrapping things up on our own terms, feeling accomplished and deeply grateful. We are stepping away not with sadness, but with a sense of celebration for everything we achieved together.

Thank you for playing our games, for loving our characters, and for being part of the PixelFade legacy. It has been an honor sharing these stories with you.
