Iโ€™m going to sleep and I can hear magpie warbling in the distance. Thatโ€™s so strange at this hour.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

The running theory, from what I understand, is that with how loud the daytime is, birds have taken to communicating when it's quieter, i.e nighttime

It's 3.07am and I can hear two magpies warbling to each other.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

It's also sexy season for magpies I think. Last year I had a juvenile near me all summer who would practice singing all day and night. I still can recognise his little personal song.

Yesterday I found out Iโ€™d made a mistake with the ato about 3 years ago that will most likely result in a very significant debt.

It was my fuck up, and I accept that.

Iโ€™m the one who approached them first, when I realised something was wrong which will work in my favour in a big way.

But still Iโ€™d be lying if I said I wasnโ€™t really, really worried about the outcome.

So far theyโ€™ve been pretty good and have asked for more info. The tone of the call with the debt team was surprisingly light and the guy I spoke to said โ€œeveryone makes mistakesโ€.

But yeah, I have enough shit to deal with right now and this on top is a lot.

Thanks for listening.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

The ATO will happily work with someone to pay a debt off! They only take legal action if the entity in debt is being obtuse and evading.

You did the right thing, it will work in your favour, and you will have the option of a payment plan!

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

the only way to handle this is confronting it head on and getting good legal advice

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

You can stretch it out over about 24 months so at least it won't be a big hit all at once

I have locked myself out of my house like a dill. Waiting for a locksmith to come to the rescue.

Update: I'm unclear on whether my house is Fort Knox or whether this guy is a terrible locksmith. I suspect the latter.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hope you agreed on fees upfront - I've read wayyyyy to many horror stories!!

[โ€“] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The fees weren't too horrendous, but I no longer have a door handle. I'll need to find a slightly better locksmith to fix everything.

At some point today I must be an adult and go - in person - to the bank

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

I too need to do this in the near future.

[โ€“] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Thankfully banks don't seem to be so busy these days.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

I hope nothing has gone extremely wrong to require an in person bank visit

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

Will put this on the main thread too. most underrated critter poll

The man turns 50 next week. That's 30 years knowing each other. I say to him "I know you better than you know yourself". He says "that's true".

He has the week off. It's gonna be a blast.

Oh no, had to hand in my PC to a repair tech this morning. Silently died overnight it seems, and I reached my limit of troubleshooting. I suspect PSU is tripping since I get a brief light up and then only baseline power.

Someone at work has decided that Wednesdays in the office need jazzing up

They want to start something called The Hump Day Quiz and are looking for volunteers who want to be (I wish I was making this up) The Humpmaster

I can't.....

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Lol, give it a search with safety off. You might be able to cut this off at the pass. I suggest the Wendnesdayinator or MC Wed.

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 0 points 9 months ago

I did message the person asking if they thought the name through fully.

It is, but the lack of awareness is outstanding.
