Stupid but comfy. ☺️

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dont you love when you stick your fork into a potato and end up cutting the fucker in half? Thats what these wide tines do.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 year ago

Looks like 4 has wider tines… and a couple others.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Yep, number two is the best.

Give us a harder choice.

[–] arakhis_@feddit.org 1 points 1 year ago

I was like this, then I saw the handle. That being said its still 2 but its very close and it could be better still like the 1 or 5 handle

[–] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

2 is definitely the best-machined. Quality manufacturing right there.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

5 looks well made too. I like a slightly sporked fork though.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

on this topic:

This is a cutlery model sold by a specific store chain here in sweden some decades ago, i fucking adore how simple and proletarian it is, it's absolutely ubiquitous even to this day.
Like IKEA things but cheaper and higher quality.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

My grandparents had those! Think my moms got them in a box or something.

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

None of these. 2 has the best tines, but the handle sucks. These look like forks you'd find in a diner. Rounded outer tines is a crime against humanity. Did you maybe want a spork instead? 😡

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Agreed. 2 is the clear winner of this heat, despite the bad handle. 5 has the best handle of the bunch, but all these were stamped from thin, stainless sheet steel, rather than forged from thicker plate. All of their handles are lousy.

5 has a better finish than the rest, but the tines are a train wreck.

Here is the perfect fork:

[–] Brownboy13@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Handle needs some kind of texture, or else may become slippery.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

it needs a nice knurling

[–] sorrybookbroke@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Knurel that shit up my boy.

Knureling is heavily underated

[–] Jessica@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Allow me to introduce you to my favorite fork. I feel like yours would rotate in the hand while applying downward cutting force.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 2 points 1 year ago

Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark...

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Personally I don't like that handle either. Needs to be thicker.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's how they are when first harvested from the fork-bush. Have to carefully separate the layers for each individual fork.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

gotta wait until it ripens though, otherwise you'll just make a mess and hurt your fingers

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They are all good since they are all single extruded so no food remains getting in between the metal part and the plastic/wood/other

Though, we could argue that 1. is better that the others for the easy grip due to its in-curved handle. Or that its diametrical opposite, number 5. Is the best thanks to its filleted handle making it easier to hold in the case of the food scooped by it not being very hard.

[–] eldain@feddit.nl 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But only 2 and 5 look post processed after extrusion to remove sharp edges, while the others don't. I have cheap cutlery like this and I don't like the feel.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

That's true

  1. has that large bolge at the end and is very thin where the gripping takes places making it feel weird in the hand

So it looks like 5. wins this contest

[–] ulterno@programming.dev 0 points 1 year ago

I don't like the bulging teeth in the sides of 5, but I guess that depends more upon what you are eating with it.

I prefer teeth with as acute an angle as viable, so for the front part, I'd go with 2.

The space between the teeth also matters:

  • it decides how soft and brittle an object you can pierce with it, without the object breaking down.
  • as it decides the variety of objects you can use to clean them.

The fork I use has ~1.5 times the space between teeth as 2

As you said, the handle in 2 is a no. I would be fine with either of 1 and 5 for that.

Though I like 5 for the neck girth of the handle in the 3rd dimension, which would make it last longer and be better for harder stuff, the oval shape seems like it would cause more unwanted turning during use, requiring a higher Dexterity for handling.

While the handle for 3 looks like it would be fine for use, it seems like it would break in ~6 months.

2 if I had to pick from that drawer, but the actual answer: Victorinox Swiss Classic / Swiss Modern cutlery. Absolutely love the large handles, sharp knives and large spoons. Very nice feel in hand and mouth.

[–] hlmw@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wtf, that has plastic handles?!😬

[–] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

You haven’t seen that before? It’s not that uncommon. The handles give a really nice, secure grip. It’s also perfectly safe for the dishwasher, doesn’t fade, doesn’t deteriorate, etc. We’ve had ours since the early 2010’s and they still look brand new.

[–] needthosepylons@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The present is now, old fella

[–] SarcasticCephalopod@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where the hell did the "L" come from?????

[–] Xkdrxodrixkr@feddit.org 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

yea it should be KNOOORK

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

5, obviously

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Handle of 5 + the fork of 3

I am so on board with you

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago

2 and it's not close, 1 is the worst.

[–] Roundeyegweilo@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's 2 and it ain't even close

[–] dirtycrow@programming.dev 0 points 1 year ago

Wasn’t even surprised when I read this after eliminating 1, 5, 4, and 3.

[–] glibg@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Imagine needing a flared end to keep the utensil from slipping out of your hamfisted mitts. #1 all day

[–] Roundeyegweilo@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Yea the other guys hate sparring with me because my hands are huge. It's my cross to bare.

But uh.... 1's tines are too tiny and squared off, so no. That ain't gonna work on huge chunks of meat.

[–] glibg@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

Touche about the pointed tines, I hadn't noticed that.

[–] 5too@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Everyone is busily selecting a fork, and I'm trying to figure out if the apostrophe was an intentional troll ..

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

2 for a meal, 5 for snacks and desserts
