I already live without all of these except the fries.

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Ditto. I miss eggs.

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

As a leftist vegan, I could probably only eat the 8 fries anyways.

[–] not@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

HA! They are fried in lard!

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 hours ago

Usually in Europe you can get away with having only one thing on the menu, which would be fries. Took a trip to the capitol of the land of the french fries - Brussles, Belgium once, probably one of the most annoying trips I've ever had.

[–] ShutUpWesley@piefed.zip 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As a vegan, how do you feel about eating the rich?

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Do you know where they've been? Compost the rich.

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Do you know what heavy metals are in them? Mix them in with the depleted uranium hexafluoride and bury them under a mountain.

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Bioconcentration. /nod

I strongly believe hoarding wealth and/or power is consent so...

The best fries are made with duck fat. Sorry, it's true. They are fucking delicious. It will make you ask "is this a normal potato?" They are that good and beyond.

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 hours ago

I'll surely take your word on that one.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The best fries are the best ones you can have depending on your diet, and in this case a working brain with morality and ethics.
You're being a shit for no reason, your comment is the same as the idiots who go into vegan communities and ppst about how good bacon is. It's real fucking childish and dumb.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

No, it's childish and dumb to take a comment about food like it's an attack on someone's personal choices around what they eat. I was literally just talking about my favorite way to make fries.

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 0 points 10 hours ago

I mean yeah, wrong place for engagement, but if one loves something so much, why don't share it? Better than gate keeping. In this comment, at least, he wasn't criticizing or shaming veganism, so I'll defend his (even if morally questionable) standpoint.

I think this is a weirdly defensive take. I went vegan for about one year (20'years ago): primarily for health reasons (also ditched drugs & alcohol and started exercising.) I felt great and while I did not continue beyond the year, it did change my relationship with and understanding of food. I fully support people to make whatever dietary choices they wish, for whatever reason they wish.

Taste is clearly subjective, but humans are biologically predisposed to find certain molecules more pleasurable to consume than others. Some textures are also more desirable. Potatoes can be enjoyed in many forms, but unlike a carrot do not lend themselves to being enjoyed raw. Cooked foods usually include the introduction of fats, particularly when frying. I propose that the complexity of animal fats, to the human organism, is an objectively superior culinary experience.

As far as health and morality, especially in the context of factory raised animals and highly processed foods, veganism can be more healthy, moral, and still enjoyable.

But denying the simple nature of the food chemistry seems more unreasonable (outside of a vegan/vegetarian specific forum) than recognizing the superior taste of frying starches in animal fat.

Dog penises are actually delicuous. You have to rip tgem off the animals fresh. The dog will bleed out, don't worry about that thing. You'll ask: is that a normal penis? They are that good and everyone sgould eat them.

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Example of specieism right there, good job mr. philosopher!

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 2 points 12 hours ago

This is why no one takes Vegans seriously. Like, I don't really have a problem with being Vegan. I actually respect it. But, do you honestly feel like comments like this do anything to help people understand the cruelty? Seriously. Because it just makes you sound like a crazy person. It doesn't do anything to help your cause when you respond like this to someone talking about how they like to cook fries.

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 0 points 18 hours ago

name checks out.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The hell is biscuits and gravy?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Butter/ savory scones, with thick sausage roux. Quite tasty, and cheap

[–] Terrapinjoe@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

It's a breakfast dish from the southeastern US. Like many of our dishes, it's just a way to stretch calories using cheap ingredients. You cook a few pieces of sausage in a skillet then use the oil, some butter, and flour to make a light roux which you break up the sausage into. Serve gravy over southern style biscuits.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Angry 'Murican downvoted you. I have no idea either.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I mean the name is pretty self explanatory, I have never had them but wasn't confused. Do you know what biskets are? Do you know what gravy is?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I know what a biscuit is. Is what Americans call cookies, that's not what's pictured apparently contains sausage which in the matrix space of "what is a cookie* is off on a distant planet in another galaxy.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

What Americans call cookies, others call biscuits. American biscuits are flaky pastry. Biscuits and gravy is an excellent hearty breakfast for cheap.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

So is this American biscuits or other biscuits?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

This dish is made with American Biscuits, you would probably call them savory/ butter scones.

[–] UiUiUiUiUi@piefed.nl 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Biscuits are stuff like digestives, or jammy dodgers or bourbon biscuits. Gravy is bistro granules.

Scones are what they’re called.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

gravy is bistro granules

What do you do with drippings? There’s a lot of juice and bits that accumulate when you cook a piece of meat that isn’t pure enough to use as frying fat, does it just get wasted?

[–] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)
[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

So gravy’s the same thing, just with a shortcut?

[–] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

Yeah, this isnt exactly health food. But it tasts wonderful

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

We know what gravy is and it's not whatever that in the picture is.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 17 hours ago

I mean that's just one form of gravy, you can use any gravy really. The pictured gravy is more popular in southern states, I think it has sausage in it and I am not sure what the base is, probably like a milk roux.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works -4 points 22 hours ago

American gravy is wallpaper paste.

[–] judgy_jackdaw@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i mean biscuits & gravy is a strong contender

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works -2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

"gluck"? Really?

Are you so uncultured that you don't know what a roux is?

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Flour and water are a lot of things. I don't call them gravy.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Buddy, brown gravy (the stuff you posh types insist is the only gravy that exists) is literally flour, fat, and broth. You literally do call it gravy.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I mean I can't eat the eggs or shrimp regardless...

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I cannot live without eating the middle one. I can do without any of the others.
