History

@MrSebSin@sh.itjust.works started this community and wrote:

About this community and how I post the comics… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. Of course these days you can read your favorite comics online instead of a newspaper, but I love the nostalgia of reading the daily comics. Anyway, one of my favorite current comics is Cyanide and Happiness and I will be posting the daily release from their website (https://explosm.net/) and a an extra or two randoms.

Look, both sides are the same-- they both pee! Just one does it openly onto you, which is just being honest! Would you trust someone who only pees in private, away from taxpayer eyes?

I hate that this is exactly the shit I heard in 2015.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The other side did not condemn peeing strongly enough though.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

And they were in the same restaurant as a twitch streamer once, so can we talk about that instead?

[–] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well hell, I can't see a difference...

[–] BrownSugarBits@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago (2 children)

all the tankies from .ml

"they're both the same"

[–] Tja@programming.dev 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not really. They are more "fuck the guy on the left, he didn't make implement my favorite policy the last time, and he said this one thing this one time, I will never vote for him".

Crickets about the guy on the right.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I've literally argued with people saying it's better not to vote and we should let conservatives win so people will get mad enough to revolt. Eventually.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, people just voted for the incompetent serial bankrupt demented whiner a second time...

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Accelerationism is rational if you assume the country is doomed. But I don't think that assumption is rational.

[–] cass80@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They also don't appreciate what actual societal collapse would be like.

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 1 points 1 week ago

There is a version where the worse it would be the more rational it becomes to accelerate there faster

  1. As a protective measure for your kids. Similar to the motivations for many civil wars
  2. If you're going to be miserable, hungry, on the run, etc. you have a better chance of surviving that at the age N than N+10, for all N > 15. Better to start the misery now and adapt while you are younger. You might even get to see the other side for sufficiently small N.
[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

ugh, I've had some success by arguing you should at least deface a ballot. Why assume they'll know you're mad and not lazy. If 10% of people wrote in "fuck all y'all" you might actually get people trying to win over their vote.

"You showed up for the protests didn't you? You didn't just assume they got the message did you?"

But man it's like talking to a wall

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Robots that scan ballots don’t give a shit about your scribbles and will just not count the vote.

Then you’re back to accelerationist nonsense

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Defaced ballots are counted. Not towards any party but they are recorded.

I'm not saying it's a silver stake, I'm just saying it clears the ever low bar of being better than "not voting at all"

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 1 points 1 week ago

If 10% of people defaced their ballot this would be a international scandal. The 'champions of democracy' have at-scale revolt in their democratic process.

Think J6 but worse in terms of recognition. We are still talking about J6

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think there's more effective ways to show you're angry than throwing your vote away.

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

If you truly, truly don't believe either vote makes a difference, doing nothing is still worse.

Anything is better than nothing.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I think it's a level of naive optimism to think society will collapse and we'll make something better, other than the harsh reality that this will continue plodding on. Real change is slow, and unglamorous.

It's like the people who believe and really want the rapture to happen, so they don't have to cope with their everyday life.

"Don't worry, The Revolution will come any day now, no one knows when, and it'll make things All Better."

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 3 points 1 week ago

It's more like you need someone to watch your kid and your options are a pedophile or someone who merely is merely attracted to children but never acted.

And you're exhausted trying to convince people that 1) the first guy is a pedophile 2) yes, if you are forced to pick, the second guy is preferred 3) but the second guy is awful and you should also hate him too 4) there IS a third guy that we all pretend doesn't exist for some reason

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The last panel really says it all.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

I can’t remember the comedian, but the line “They’re not even pissing on your leg and telling you it’s raining, anymore, they’re pissing on your face and telling you it’s piss” hit it right on.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

Pissing candidate also needs a word bubble coming in from right saying, "vote for me to clean up this disgusting piss-soaked world that THEY made!"

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 19 points 1 week ago

He tells it like it is.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

No worries! Both sides are the same! Just don't vote! That'll show 'em.

/s, just in case.

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's a common type of voter that people don't really hear about, but it's a naive voter that makes a really really simple choice.

Did my life improve in the past 4 years? I'll vote for the incumbent or their party.

No? Grrr, other party...

Some people are legitimately this simple, because they don't want to try and pretend to understand the deeper issues, and don't think about the problem any more than that. They hate politics and don't want to care about it or understand it. They just react to how their life felt in the past few years and ignore mostly everything else, because their direct life experience is the only thing they trust.

And I've brought this up before, and said yeah some people are just that dumb, and someone was like "well what do you expect me to do, vote for the guy who made my life worse?" Literally this type of voter got very vocally upset and announced this was the right way to vote. They exist, and they vote, and they see no problem voting for a fascist as long as their rent went up under a Democrat, and will likely vote for a Democrat because their bills went up under a fascist.

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

I think you're right to point this out since it can be subtle to notice in the way some voters speak about the decision making (though hard not to spot in "independent" voters, once you're conscious of it) but you especially see this a lot with Trump voters, particularly those who're considering voting for someone else (not even necessarily a Democrat).

They always frame their decision due to how things have changed for them in the last X years but left out is how the policies Trump campaigned on would have alerted you that's where things would have ended up well before now. I remember Jordan Klepper was interviewing people at a Trump rally and one guy said things were great under Trump; Klepper asked him what he did for a living and the guy said he was a debt collector: he seemed confused as to why Klepper was just laughing at him, after that.

man i wish this senario was analogous to real life. … no i am not joking.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But we really need to kill our kids, because that's what I saw a popular account on tiktok say. You know tiktok never lies.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

This comic is from 2012, so it actually predates TikTok.

The ancient wisdom!

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Lots of people hate their kids, based on the parents I see.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

While I think, in the end, the problem is deeper than this, I still can't believe how a convicted felon, a probable (child)rapist, proven con man, miserable liar, a military draft dodger, a millionaire-born junior, and a horrible human being, won against Kamala Harris.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 week ago

The first guy is kidding, and actually just wants to make it easier for the other guy to do what he says he'll do.
