I have hairy toes with poor blood flow, so I'm a little skeptical.

[–] topherclay@lemmy.world 35 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I have renauds syndrome where my hands and feet are usually dead blocks of ice like a corpse that the Donner party couldn't eat because it got too cold.

My feet are so hairy that I often wonder what utopia of a world I would live in if Lord of the Rings never existed.

I'm with you on being skeptical of the claim that hairy toes are a sign of good circulation.

[–] TheMuffinMan@piefed.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Same, this is definitely not a rule. My extremities feel much colder than the rest of me most of the time. My toes are hairy because of genetics; I’m Middle Eastern.

Oh dear.

I use to have really hairy toes. I just checked and they are bald. Damn.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have naturally hairless toes and it has made several doctors check to see if I have diabetes.

[–] bitteroldcoot@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

Oh I know why they are bald. I just never noticed they were till I saw the post.

But definitely not diabetes. Just tons of other health issues I'm reluctant to post about with all the ai programs scraping the open internet.

TIL, you're dead!

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 20 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Alright Lemmy graduates of Hollywood Upstairs Medical College: why are my toes hairy but my feet are always cold?

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Increased bloodflow can actually drop the temperature of the limb. For instance, alcohol might make you feel warm, but due to the vasodilation you're actually losing heat.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That is not how it works, unless we drop the temperature from a higher level down, e.g. when you have your hand in hot water or sunshine.

From the cold side it can only get warmer. That works until you die, which is not exactly relevant here. But the core temperature will, even then, still be higher (aka heating the limb) and there is no way around that due to how heat works.

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Same. My toes and feet are so hairy but if it's below 65 F my feet literally turn blue.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 9 points 2 weeks ago

For real though I think it's my iron deficiency. I had an ultrasound done on my legs because I was convinced I had a blood clot, and the technician was like, "you have excellent veins!" 😅

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Probably Reynaud's Phenomenon. I'm been diagnosed with this. My fingers and toes are often very cold and change colors (blue, purple, or even white). I'd suggest you talk to your doctor as there are medications that can help with this and it could be connected to an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder or connective tissue disorder.

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I've thought about Reynauds, but my skin never turns white, just blue. I also get tingling sometimes in my heels, but never in my toes or fingers (which also turn blue). The people I've met with Reynauds also talk about it being painful and I've never had pain.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have reynauds and for a long time it just skipped white. Also it's rarely painful for me, which led to me just leaving my arms blood deficient too long

Are you particularly hard to draw blood from? And is it sometimes slower than normal, especially when it's cold?

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I am actually a stupidly easy stick. I am IV trained myself and for funsies and experience I've started large bore IVs in my own foot and ankle and also started a large bore IV one handed in my arm. I'll have to ask my doctor about it next time I see her.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

My mom had this due to having ESRD. She often did complain about the cold digits and sometimes color changes, but if she had associated pain she never mentioned it to me.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

I just mentioned it elsewhere in this thread, you might have Reynaud's phenomenon. It's a disorder that causes the capillaries in your fingers and toes (and elsewhere) to spasm and constrict when you are cold or stressed restricting blood flow. I suggest you talk to your doctor as it can be associated with other conditions.

How do y’all prefer to shave your shitlocks?

[–] pageflight@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Asking the real questions!

[–] dismay3915@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hair removal cream is the way

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 weeks ago

I'm basically a werewolf, so I guess I must have great circulation.

Which is weird because my hands and feet are always cold to the touch.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago

I can bring a little more blood flow to your ass, instead.

I believe this an outdated piece of medical advice based on cardiovascular health and arterial disease

Picturing the cat avatar saying it

[–] Ninja876@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I have no blood flow over most of my body then. I'm nearly hairless except on my head and my junk... I'm going to die.

/not Asian

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Same. Virtually no body hair at all except junk. My facial hair grows really slowly, and I have toe hair. I don't even really have underarm hair to speak of. Also have gone bald.

I wonder if I am some sort of very tall elf/hobbit hybrid...

[–] TheMuffinMan@piefed.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wow! Blankets must feel so much smoother and colder to the touch haha.

I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum - short and very hirsute!

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

I love sleeping nekkid with just a thin cotton sheet. It's so nice

[–] Ninja876@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Here's the irony, I said head. I have a huge beard, but very little body hair. Now the beard didnt come in til my mid 30's

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have noticed the beard has increased a bit in the last 5 years or so. I'm 35 now, and can actually have facial hair, I just have a longer than average awkward period. In my twenties, I had huge patches of missing hair. Including an almost exactly circular, US quarter sized missing spot on my chin. That was weird. Lol

[–] Ninja876@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I could grow a ok goatee when they were in, I also had a 5+ inch soul patch at one time in my 20's. My issue was I had a a bit bigger than your missing hair patch on both of my cheeks.

Hard to grow a beard missing those eh? So I get ya :)

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

You're body is doing the opposite of mine, got body hair by 8, a stache by 12, and a full and proper lumberjack beard by 21 I am slowly turning into Cousin Itt at 26. Don't mix Scottish and German blood unless you want to accidentally creat Homo-Neanderthalensis.

Yes, you are going to die.

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 weeks ago

You say "not Asian" like being Asian makes you less hairy. We Indians are Asian too and sadly being an Indian woman means lots of hair removal.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

i have hair in between my knuckles and the first joint the finger.

Chat how true is this

[–] em2@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

Hank Green says it's to prevent chafing! Probably.

[–] Stupidmanager@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have near zero hair on my head but ears down I grow hair like it’s going out of style. I’m a little worried my body feels the need to provide blood to all the places i don’t want or need it, but skips the most important part.

Lol I does sound like judgement doesnt it ? "This one is for doing not thinking, optimise accordingly"

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 weeks ago

Ass health also requires good blood flow. Hang in there champ!

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I could pretty much braid the hair on my toes if I wanted to. I guess that means I'm healthy?

[–] trd@feddit.nu 1 points 2 weeks ago

What about lots of hair on toes, but they feel cold but always sweating on toes. No illness that i'm ehm some body know off?

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

We even upgraded to digital veins!
