Sure I'm pissed off too but Lemmy has to be more than everyone screaming at politics and billionaires. I need some balance of just topics that are not rage bait and propaganda. Are there no cat subs here?

Sounds like you've been looking at All:Hot.

Re-sort by New, scroll, subscribe to communities you like, and then look at Subscribed.

maybe take a gander through the list Blaze made of active communities which are not politics, news, memes or tech, there's definitely more than that around but it is a good starting point

[–] vladmech@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is such a fantastic list, thank you for sharing! Subscribed to ten new communities just now

[–] discoplasm@quokk.au 3 points 3 weeks ago

First post: I can't tell a fitted bed sheet from a flat one. Jeeeeeesus fucking Christ on toast.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

isn't it the last post -at time of writing- ?? ;)

Yes. I meant the top of the feed, first you see at the time. I subscribed anyway though.

Edit: !foxes@lemmy.world

.world has all the animals. !dogs@lemmy.world too

in addition to what people said, if you don't find what you want, post it.

a lot of the smaller and niche comms won't have as many posters.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

Check out the community list on slrpnk.net

You don't need an account there, you can sub those communities from your current account.

!tenforward@lemmy.world for a great trek community

Edit: every week or two I go to /all and if I happen to see any communities that are interesting, I follow them

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, please post other things! The reason the majority of the content is politics is because that's what's being posted.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

*It’s the majority of what’s being upvoted.

There’s a lot of other content, but it tends to wither away instead of getting any engagement.

[–] dragnucs@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

You need to start by subscribing to communities you like. Then blcok user you don't like.

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 3 weeks ago

The key is to make some sweeping community and instance blocks right off the bat. Then it's a tolerable platform.

Gotta filter the word "Trump". Believe me, it won't leave you in the dark. You'll still get US news just not headlines that are rage bait

[–] bluesquid0741b@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And the very first post has AI in big letters.

[–] bluesquid0741b@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure if you're trying to imply that pmjv is an AI evangelist. Maybe look at the content of you're not familiar.

[–] pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 week ago

What'd you call me?

[–] Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

That's actually pretty fair. I thought the fediverse should foster nieche c/ it would keep people on lemmy longer because they enjoy popular memes as well as specialized interests.

I want to say AMA communities but I tainted that with rage bait and only a few posts a month. 196 communities can be fun they're chill 99% of the time, but they don't take criticism too well.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

You need to block the political subs. At least the ones constantly posting tabloids or reposting Twitter ragebait.

Even then… yeah. It’s a major problem for Lemmy/Piefed. There are cat subs, but niches feel buried these days.

[–] OhVenus_Baby@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Made a post saying the same thing got slammed and downvoted and shit all over. Goodluck. I'm with you.
