House Republicans authorized a new rule to prevent Democrats from probing the Trump administration’s scandals until October.

Amid mounting scandals out of the Trump administration, House Republicans voted Tuesday in favor of a rule that creates hurdles for Democrats looking to investigate it.

Departments across Trump’s government have been rocked by scandals over a variety of issues: Elon Musk’s glaring conflicts of interest while gutting the federal government, Cabinet officialsdiscussing sensitive military plans with civilians via a third-party messaging platform or members of Congress benefiting as the White House turned tariffs on and off.

Democrats have tried to shine light on these and other scandals using what are called “resolutions of inquiry,” which can tee up what are essentially special votes over whether to provide information from the president or executive officials.

How have Americans not killed any of these guys yet? This is open corruption in assisting their first dictator. You all need to nip this in the bud before a complete takeover happens.

Is this how we never have to vote again?

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There will still be lines to stand in, just not voting lines.

Can you explain this image to an ignorant person? Is this when Italy enacted fascism? Why is the yes adorned with the Italian flag?

[–] patchworkneuron@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

These cards were used in Italian national elections in 1929 and 1934 when Mussolini's party was the only legally permitted party. Voters (at the time, only males who were trade union members, clergy, or soldiers) could only vote to approve or disapprove the list of deputies the Grand Council of Fascism had appointed. The officials would check that the card the voter chose was properly sealed, so the colors would probably immediately let them know which vote is being cast. And/or it was propaganda: voting for yes is patriotic, and no is... less patriotic.

[–] zzx@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

That's depressing. Thank you for the information!

[–] Franklin@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

And yet voters will see no difference between the two.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Every Republican is complicit in this shit show.

I don't think Trump is actually running the white house anymore. Watching the project 2025 checklist, it's far too complete for Trump to be able to dictate any of it.

Actually, I don't think any of the Regime cabinet is running anything. It's the Heritage Foundation.

The republicans were hand picked to make sure the Heritage Foundation has absolute power. I am willing to believe the Heritage Foundation has control of the Supreme Court too, thinking about it.

A literal shadow government. Every accusation is an admission.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Of course not. Even in 2016 Trump was a figure head. Back then there was what was called the silent resistance of White House staffers who did their best to undermine or at least lessen the impact of their programs.

I have been saying for years the problem isn't Trump returning to power. It's people like Karl Rove and Steve Bannon, with the charisma of Obama that we need to be afraid of.

Turns out I was half right. Trump is still the figure head that allows the literal deep state to do the work of the Heritage Foundation. He is the alt-right's Obama.

I don’t think Trump is actually running the white house anymore. Watching the project 2025 checklist, it’s far too complete for Trump to be able to dictate any of it.

What bothers me more is that it's been stuck at 42% complete for what seems like a month. Things have taken a nose dive compared to the first couple of months. Makes me wonder if we're going to go from 42% to 80% with martial law all at once soon.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A bunch of it hit roadblocks with pesky judges, but some of it just happened - like the defunding of public broadcast programming.

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

Yeah I saw the public broadcasting defunding one. To be honest, I lost track of all the things going on because I've been so focused on Social Security, Medicaid, and HUD because anything that happens to them affects me in some way more than anything else being on disability and in HUD housing.

I imagine once things come up in the Supreme Court we'll see a flurry of activity regardless of their decisions

[–] kevin2107@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Bingo bango. Thiel places jd vance as his puppet, funnels defense spending into palantir, a company the heritage foundation recognizes as one of the most innovative. Look at the networks surrounding the people who run these organizations. This is the LITERAL DEEP STATE

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

I remember in the George W or Mitt Romney times ... I remember seeing a leaked video recording or some either political dude or rich guy saying that they just needed the dumbest Republican president that is just barely able to hold a pen in office. I'm obviously paraphrasing and I can't for the life of me find the video.

Sounds like a good time to leave the country while you still can.

Disclaimer: I'm from Europe, where we could really use a few more sensible people.

I'm on my way to Sweden in a couple months! Getting out of this place before they round my trans ass up and put me in front of a wall

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Great! I wish you all the best!

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Got my family out last year.

It's absolute heaven here, the people are incredible, just having to learn how to be 10x more polite as that's the standard.

I'm game, if they'll let me in! I've been applying to jobs, and doing language learning for a couple of years now.

I hope everything works out and keep my fingers crossed for you!

I've looked into moving to Iceland but it seems like they don't actually want foreigners moving there and taking their jobs.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about Iceland. But in Germany, where I come from, skilled workers are urgently needed. It's a whole spectrum of jobs: from hospitality to elderly care to engineering to physicians to pretty much all IT jobs (and many more).

There really is a shortage of workers in a wide variety of areas, which makes it all the more incomprehensible to me that we also have a MAGA-like party, the AfD, which constantly rails against foreigners. However, they are despised by everyone in even halfway larger cities and don't play a role there. Significantly, this party is particularly popular in eastern Germany, especially in rural areas where there are hardly any foreigners. It's really absurd, but I'm afraid morons like these can be found in all rural areas around the wold.

Of course, I don't want to make any false promises and unfortunately I have to say that there are a lot of intolerant assholes in Germany too (the AfD, a darn Nazi-Party was at 20% in the last election and I'm afraid that they will get even more in the next one). But there are also a lot of nice, open-minded people and, as I said, a lot of open jobs. Maybe you'll find something with us.

I would be delighted. That much is certain, even if it's not worth much.

[–] kmaismith@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

Congrats on capturing MAGAs role in America so eloquently. Those are not laurels to be resting on my friend

I highly recommend this. If you're at danger, please come. We don't want any of you to suffer any harm, we will welcome you with open arms.

If you're looking to get an easy start: germany has a lot of open jobs in professions such as plumbing, so you have a good chance to land a Job.

Just be sure to assimilate. We do have a different culture here, and we don't want you to bring yours.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

It depends on where you live. In all major German cities, multiculturalism is the name of the game, which very much adds to the charm imo. But it's true, unfortunately that's not the case everywhere.

And yes, that's also absolutely right: there are a lot of open jobs in Germany that can only be filled by foreign workers. Also true: there is no discrimination or even persecution of any groups by the state, as is the case in the States these days. Of course, not everything is perfect in Germany - far from it, but at least our constitution applies - and it's a good one.

October? Oh, the midterms.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Midterms aren't until 2026

[–] finder585@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Technically, at that point the midterms are a little over a year away.

Delaying any investigations means the Democrats will be forced to investigate and campaign at the same time.

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Filibuster everything. Literally everything that can be filibustered. See how fast we get rid of the filibuster.

[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

The Old Guard/Corporate Dems don't care, they will sit idly by as the shit hits the fan again and again and again, even some of them voted for Trumps appointments. Dems in Congress are not going to save us, only the people will. But most of us aren't educated enough to know and understand what's going on, hence why we're in this whole pickle...

[–] constnt@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Chuck Schumer said his only job as a Democrat is to ensure that the Democratic party stays pro-israel. Cory Booker voted in favor of the last trump appointee. These people are not on the left. They are conservatives that wear blue and talk about things they don't vote for.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

instead of doing useless investigation, why not try blocking every republican bill, instead of having the chuck schumers and DINOS voting with the republicans everytime.

[–] Axxys@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

They're complicit. Not all of them, but most. Look at how they're voting since Trump got elected, not what they're saying.

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Crazy to live through the dictatorization of the USA

[–] Eezyville@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Wasn't this the same set of Republicans doing these endless investigations on Bengazi and someone's laptop?

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

What if they just, like, did it anyway and ignored any backlash from Republicans? It's not exactly like the Republicans follow rules of any kind.
