As a ceasefire was declared in the Middle East, Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought to draw attention to the war in his own country, posting on social media that Ukraine had consistently pushed for a ceasefire in the war “being waged by Russia here, in Europe”.

Efforts to end the war in Ukraine have largely stalled since the Iran war began, with trilateral talks between Kyiv, Moscow and Washington, which had already yielded little, frozen since February 2026. The war, meanwhile, has continued, with air attacks on Ukrainian cities and heavy fighting on the battlefields as Russia launches a spring offensive.

A possible visit to Kyiv this month by the White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, which would be their first since negotiations began, may help to reboot talks to end the conflict. But the war in Iran has exposed divisions between Washington and its European allies more starkly than at any point since Russia’s full-scale invasion in early 2022 and fuelled concerns in Europe over the depth of US commitment to any potential peace deal.

One European official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “You can see Trump’s team is running out of patience in Ukraine and wants a quick solution.”

Chinese AI company Z.ai has launched GLM-5.1, an open-source coding model it says is built for agentic software engineering. The release comes as AI vendors move beyond autocomplete-style coding tools toward systems that can handle software tasks over longer periods with less human input.

Z.ai said GLM-5.1 can sustain performance over hundreds of iterations, an ability it argues sets it apart from models that lose effectiveness in longer sessions.

As one example, the company said GLM-5.1 improved a vector database optimization task over more than 600 iterations and 6,000 tool calls, reaching 21,500 queries per second, about six times the best result achieved in a single 50-turn session.

In a research note, Z.ai said GLM-5.1 outperformed its predecessor, GLM-5, on several software engineering benchmarks and showed particular strength in repo generation, terminal-based problem solving, and repeated code optimization. The company said the model scored 58.4 on SWE-Bench Pro, compared with 55.1 for GLM-5, and above the scores it listed for OpenAI’s GPT-5.4, Anthropic’s Opus 4.6, and Google’s Gemini 3.1 Pro on that benchmark.

Gmail has good news for anyone who regrets their email address.

For the first time in the platform's 22-year history, account holders now have the ability to change their Gmail address name. Previously, Gmail users who wanted to do so had to create a brand new account.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared the announcement in a post on X.

"2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn’t need to be stuck in it. To say goodbye to v0t3f0rp3dr02004@gmail.com or mrbrightside416@gmail.com (or whatever you were into at the time), go to your Google Account settings and choose any name available. You’ll keep your old username and you can sign in with both," he said.

British police have arrested seven people on suspicion of supporting the banned group Palestine Action at a protest near a Royal Air Force (RAF) air base in eastern England used by United States forces.

The five men and two women arrested at a peace encampment just outside the Lakenheath airbase had gathered with other activists on Sunday to protest the alleged use of the base as a departure point for US aircraft involved in the US-Israeli war on Iran.
