That mom always gets a little too handsy with one of the boys too.

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.ca 83 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Under no circumstance should you let Steven Tyler drive any of your teenage friends home

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean... except on the off chance the teen's parents give their permission. But I'm just being a dick, that would obviously never happen.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, not like those parents would sign away custody so Mr. Tyler could take that teenager all over the country. That’s silly!

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And then force them to have an abortion after they get pregnant with your child because you're they're legal guardian

[–] IPeaceInYourFace@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It blows my mind that he had sex with countless little girls aged about 14 and literally nobody bats an eye

[–] Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Same with Led Zeppelin and th red hot chilli peppers. Surely dozens of other bands too. Crazy dark underbelly.

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Boomers will complain about rap music being about sex and drugs while nodding along to a Ted Nugent song about getting and giving STDs.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

There's a guy doing coke in one of Aerosmith's songs with Steve Tyler's own daughter in the front seat:

I feel icky saying it but I think a lot has to do with the consenting nature of said 14 year olds. I don't think riding the tour bus to the next state was really looked at like trafficking, and they weren't coerced into attending the concert. It doesn't make it right, but it feels different when a popular known sex icon rock star does it than a creepy, overweight real estate mogul and his super rich friends literally steals girls away from their lives with (sometimes) false promises of being a model.

[–] stray@pawb.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I really think we need different words for these things. In my own experience, consenting to sexual contact with over 18's as a teenager was a neutral-to-positive experience for me, while being assaulted by under 18's was not hella fun. I don't really like that they're bundled together as the same thing.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s an interesting point. I was once a 14 year old girl. I would have consented to fucking a rock star for sure back then. It was more ok to be with older guys then and I didn’t really have bad experiences with who I gave consent to, either.

[–] cokeslutgarbage@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 hours ago

When I was a 15 year old girl and the 35 year old man that had been giving me attention all week ASKED if he could touch me, I was so excited and wanted it to happen.

I regret it now, and when I think about that man now, i think about what a sick and disgusting person he was. And I think about how I wish the adults in my life has protected little me better. But it wasn't traumatizing or scary when it happened, and while I legally couldn't consent, I mean... I consented as much as was possible. I thought I was cool and beautiful and grown up, because a handsome adult man thought I was pretty.

It's complicated. I know now that it was wrong for that man to do that, but I'm trying not to hate myself for wanting it and liking it at the time. I do believe it was wrong and bad, but it's hard to reconcile how I felt then vs how I feel now.

Hey u/smcf, come tell this person they were raped

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (7 children)

I don't get the downvotes, I agree with you. It's not okay, and yes, it's legally rape, but it doesn't have to be traumatizing the victims in the same way as the examples you also mentioned. And that's not an excuse, but a reasonable answer to the question you responded to.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yea but it's easier to join a dog pile than it is to think critically.

If a rockstar fucks a fourteen year old that’s rape.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago (16 children)

I didn't disagree with that, just answering why I think it's less scrutinized. The other commenter really had a meltdown.

[–] ToxicWaste@lemmy.cafe 22 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Don't know Steven Tyler or what she did. but its not such a bad idea to give kids a save place to drink with some restrictions...

they can and will drink one way or the other. just a question under what circumstances.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Steven Tyler is/was the lead singer for the band Aerosmith, which had its peak in the 90s. He was born as, and identifies as, male.

Steven is typically a masculine name...thought Stevie may be a feminine variety, i.e. Stevie Nicks, the singer/songwriter of solo and Fleetwood Mac fame. Coincidentally, they were born exactly two months apart...Steven Tyler on March 26, 1948; and then Stevie Nicks on May 26, 1948.

Also, Stevie Nicks was married to two different members of the band "The Eagles" (at separate times, of course)...Don Henley from 1977-1978, and Joe Walsh from 1983-1986.

She was also married to two different Fleetwood Mac members...Lindsey Buckingham (1972-1976) and Mick Fleetwood (1977-1979).

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Stevie" is used as a diminutive form of the feminine name "Stephanie." This is how Stevie Nicks uses it.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Now I really wish that Johnny 5 had called Steph-a-nie, Ste-vie.

[–] TisI@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How was she married to two people at the same time? I'm too lazy to look it up. Don Henley from 1977-1978 and Mick Fleetwood from 1977-1979.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I dunno. I kinda ADHD'd hard last night wiki-diving Steve Tyler.

[–] TisI@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

No worries man, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going insane.

Thank you for doing the wiki dive for the rest of us ADHD folk.

Funny enough two bands that i like listening to. not my favourite bands, but in many of my playlists is some Aerosmith and/or Eagles.

Just never really cared about the people: i like the music - that's all i need to know.

This picture is the intersection of the two groups of people you normally see wearing leopard print clothes.

You kids are gonna drink anyway, so do it here in the basement, where you're safe. And stay out of mine, unnderstan'?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

steven tyler proves that once you are good enough, you can do what you want. in a "who cares what they say, that's steven fucking tyler" kind of way. it's not necessarily entirely great, but as far as dressing how you want, hell yeah.

i mean, he got away with bringing liv tyler (i'm sorry, liv fucking tyler, she's amazing too) into this world. the whole story around that is scary as fuck. she's great, but like, yikes.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

the whole story around that is scary as fuck.

I think you need to define scary here, the story is an example of good parenting from the mother.
