Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. ๐Ÿงฌ Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. ๐Ÿ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      โœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      โŒ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. ๐Ÿ“ฌ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 ๐Ÿ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 ๐Ÿ–) will be removed.
  7. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sรญ, por favor [Spanish/Espaรฑol]
  8. ๐Ÿฟ Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

As an old fart, I'm perpetually bothered by the fact that โ€˜rave crabsโ€™ have nothing to do with โ€˜FotLโ€™ and people wouldn't understand me referencing the latter.

[โ€“] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean, except this is a post about the crab from Fat of the Land.

But wait, does that mean Iโ€™m an old fart?

[โ€“] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I never stopped <3

Fat of the Land was the first album I ever pirated circa 2000ish

[โ€“] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Fat of the Land was the first CD I borrowed indefinitely and thus owned circa also the same time.

[โ€“] hopesdead@startrek.website 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I mean the latter has a song that became a theme to a popular medical drama.

[โ€“] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I only know of mezzanine cause of the Matrix lol

[โ€“] hopesdead@startrek.website 14 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

โ€œTeardropโ€ is the House M.D. opening theme.

[โ€“] brsrklf@jlai.lu 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

In France it was only there for the first season (at least on my streaming service, and I was watching them around the time they released).

There was a rather similar-sounding but legally distinct song used after that. I guess they didn't get worldwide rights for the song or something.

[โ€“] nautevenkidding@feddit.org 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Same with Germany - possibly licensed and/or distributed by RTL or subsidiaries in both countries?

[โ€“] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Listen. There was also that shit that was pulled with Edelweis at the beginning of Man in the High Castle. The song changed after the first season.

I donโ€™t like the idea that shows can be altered after broadcast so many years later due to that. I know Netflix did similar with Dawsonโ€™s Creek. Which in my opinion, can ruin the artist intent to those involved. So Iโ€™d rather not watch such a show if I know this is a edit being made.

[โ€“] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yeah, they should have to mention it before the opening credits when they do that

[โ€“] brsrklf@jlai.lu 1 points 3 weeks ago

It was first broadcast for us in this case. Which probably means the series producers were aware of this, and just didn't care that the rights they got would not cover worldwide broadcast.

[โ€“] maccentric@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

If you only know it from House, you might be surprised to find it has vocals too (worth a listen)

[โ€“] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

What track was on the Matrix soundtrack from this?

[โ€“] iamahab@feddit.org 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

according to Wikipedia Music from the film that does not appear on the soundtrack

  • The music playing on Neo's headphones ("Dissolved Girl" by Massive Attack) when he is contacted by Trinity. [00:06:42]
[โ€“] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

Oh interesting I didn't realise that.

[โ€“] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Dissolved Girl, plays in the beginning shots of Neo asleep at his desk at home

[โ€“] Psionicsickness@reddthat.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Mezzanineโ€™s first track is why I know I have never or will never find the woman I really wantโ€ฆ namely because Iโ€™ve met women I thought I loved, but Iโ€™m still breathing.

One of my favourite Prodigy albums. RIP Keith Flint

I was supposed to see them in concert in May 2019, had tickets and was super excited ๐Ÿ˜ญ

[โ€“] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Is that crab a fire starta?

[โ€“] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Only tangentially related, but: I've always wanted to see a mashup of "Firestarter" and Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire".

Could be better but a solid effort, better than I can do for sure

I love the distortion lines around the crab. I imagine this always being the case around this crab. You go to the beach and you spot that crab and for as long as you are looking at it really distorts around it.

[โ€“] kambusha@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

sound of whip

[โ€“] iamthetot@piefed.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Why is the beetle named after the album, but the crab is named after the band?

[โ€“] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah the inconsistent naming convention got me too.

[โ€“] FateOfTheCrow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I assume they're just named after the largest word on the album. "Fat Of The Land Crab" would also be too long, and "Massive Attack Beetle" too threatening.

[โ€“] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Massive Attack Beetle sounds way cooler
