Cultural relativism aside, I'm sure we can agree on "terrible" if we talk it out. I'm not asking for a "well X country is worse than Y country, so, Y country isn't THAT bad". I'd say for this discussion we can go as far back as 1800 for "past" as I'm currently convinced there isn't a country with a perfect track record going back even that short a time.

North Korea hasn't done anything terrible. If you disagree, you just need to spend some time in a re-education camp.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 40 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Maybe the Principality of Sealand.

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemmy.today 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

In the grand scheme of things its not that bad but technically Sealand started out as a pirate radio station

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 34 points 1 month ago

So they started as heroes and they're still cool.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

You're equating pirate radio with "terrible things"?

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It depends on what kind of music I suppose. Like if it was polka they're cool. But if it was orchestral....

Pretty sweet answer

[–] tangible@piefed.social 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Iceland or Costa Rica, maybe?

[–] homes@piefed.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've never heard anything bad about Iceland's government

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 46 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Only govt in the world that jailed bankers, after the 2008 financial collapse. Source.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 20 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Uncontacted tribes probably haven't done much.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago

How do we know? We haven't contacted them.

[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 month ago

They likely have warred with other tribes.

[–] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Maybe, maybe not. Would have to contact to find out 😉

[–] happydoors@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

What happens in the tribe stays in the tribe

[–] ManixT@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Estonia is pretty decent. They've been on the receiving end of terrible shit and haven't been keen on repeating that in the other direction.

[–] Jaegeras@piefed.social 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Antarctica

Too cold to do anything wrong.

[–] _deleted_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not a country, and does not have a sovereign government.

Tiny island nations that were largely the victim of colonization by others. Trinidad and Tobago. Samoa.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ask a Tongan why their grandparents don't like Samoans.

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

OP said 1800-present. If you're talking about the 1899 split, then that's the colonial powers. What am I missing?

Luxembourg seems to have relatively clean hands historically I think. They were occupied by Germany though in WWII

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Idk, they do shady banking shit for tax dodging billionaires and corpos

Obviously they have all done something that someone think is terrible. Since evil is within people, not within borders.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ireland is pretty chill for the most part. Definitely not perfect though.

[–] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, definitely not perfect and have some pretty rough recent historical stuff regarding women. Not that bad though!

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yeah, the catholic church shares blame for that but the state was absolutely complicit

Heck, I think there aren't many people who meet that criteria. You'd need some sort of vegan, who doesn't use any tech made possible with child miners who obviously doesn't wear sweatshop clothes and probably doesn't live on stolen land etc...
