If our strategy is to chase capital then we're going to bankrupt Canada. Other nations have more money than we do so they'll be able to buy up Canada's wealth and steal it from us.

If we copy the usa then it's fuck thy brother and fake money rules. That is a path we should continue to stay away from in the future. We are a nation of citizens, not "profit motivators".

I don’t want to be a smaller America, I feel Canada can thrive if we get the proper cogs in place.

I like Canadas universal healthcare, EI, education subsidization, and welcoming of other people.

I don’t want a new mother forced to work early after childbirth. We should never strive to be like the U.S. we don’t need to be stupid rich and miserable, or poor and miserable. We’re close enough to that already with the state of things.

Socialist Democracy is a far better choice provided the people at the top can properly execute our tax dollars and not waste them on corruption and bloat.

We are a resource rich country. Nationalize a lot of this and we can all benefit. If we look towards Norway, it’s a better environment to emulate.

Nothings perfect, but there’s a lot better out there than America when it comes to copying.

I think a lot of that is because the Americans are right there and they export a ton of American exceptionalism to us through their media. And have done since the earliest days of newspapers.

While the Cancon regulations were a level of protection from that overwhelming presence, they didn't go far enough (IMHO)

I have long advocated for the cable TV foreign carriage regulations to require no more than 30% of international channels to be from any single country. That would have reduced the overwhelming impact that American "culture" has had on Canada.

Alas, with cable's growing irrelevance, that opportunity is long gone.

That 30% max idea is brilliant. Instead it was always American content and forced Canadian content most of which did not grab me but the odd British show did but they were only on one channel and a small percent of that channel growing up.

I never liked Carney. I knew from the start that as a world economist he was going to focus on "the economy". (Read: profits for businesses and fuck everyone else.)

Even though he made those nice speeches during the debates about building social housing for the poor and helping working class Canadians get back some kind of dignity, he's acting exactly as I expected. He's screwing over the middle class, big time.

And his nice little Davos speech? Nothing but hot air. Nice little phrases that sound inspiring but don't really mean anything. We're still shipping parts, equipment and vehicles to Israel, and he's even approved of the U.S. attacks on Iran. So whatever. It's all bullshit.

I still think we all did the NDP dirty. They worked hard to bring some benefits to Canadians, like dental care coverage, cheap daycare, etc. Even if they were a minority party in the parliament. And now Carney is gutting all those Trudeau-era benefits that the NDP was able to negotiate.

I actually think carney is doing great. This was the first time I ever voted liberal, I generally vote NDP. He still has to act in the political spectrum but I think he is doing well enough. Better them that fucking loser PP. And sing realistically never had a chance. I miss jack Layton. He would have been a good leader, we will see how the next ndp leader does.

I don't think Carney is going a good job at all. He's acting one way in public, but another behind closed doors.

He's not even neo liberal, he's a progressive conservative. With him at the helm, big Canadian companies are going to keep screwing us over, housing is going to keep being a crisis, and he's doing to apply more austerity measures, cutting us off from even more much needed social benefits.

Plus he can't say that Israel is committing genocide. He just can't say it! They're like a Nazi state committing crimes against humanity the likes of which we haven't seen since thenNazi Germany era and he can't fucking acknowledge it.

How can you even approve of this?

We deserve better.

And of course PP wasn't even a choice. He's an idiot. But I strongly believe we needed the NDP to keep the balance from tilting too much on the right. And that's where we all failed.

The thing about elections is, we have to make the best choice we can from the available options at that time.

And, given the options available during the last election, Carney was the more rational choice.

Were Layton still around, I suspect things might have been quite a bit different.

The NDP still deserved more seats. They worked really hard and were able to pass a few important bills even as a third place party in parliament. The liberals took credit for them. Then on top of it, Carney sweet talked his way into gaining the NDP vote.

I'm not saying the NDP should've become the leading party. Rather that we needed them to have enough seats to pull their weight and provide a counter balance in parliament, especially in a minority government.

Sing was never a real option. We aren't as racist as america but canada would never vote someone that brown. You may say that is racist but you know its true. That speech he made on davos was real, The old word is finished. I think he is the right amount of backbone we need. If the ndp could stand up next election I would welcome it.
