I've done a systems analysis of Alberta's political system---and found out some facts that I suspect few people know. Did you know, for example, that in 121 years not once has a political party governed Alberta, been voted out of office, and then been re-elected? Or that in the last 20 years not one single premier has been in power for more than one term? I argue that Alberta has been a 'dominant-party' democracy since the province was created, but that system may now be transitioning into a two-party system. And because of that change Danielle Smith has been supporting extremist factions to hold onto power.

The Liberals once talked tough about distancing Canada from the U.S. Now they seem eager to profit from the president’s agenda.

Carney warned about the need for middle powers to work together for mutual protection in a global system where there are seemingly no constraints on the actions of great powers. He suggested they should build something bigger, better, stronger and more just together.

Why, then, did his government immediately support the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran just a month later?

Statements made on X (formerly Twitter) by the minister of foreign affairs, Anita Anand, about Iran, Ukraine and Lebanon over the past month suggest that Canada places more blame on Iran for the war than it does on the actual aggressors.

In addressing the source of the conflict, Anand’s statements have systematically erased the original act of US-Israeli aggression, focusing instead on Iran’s response, including its strikes on Gulf states and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s actions are denounced as reprehensible, while US and Israeli attacks are “offensive operations”.

International law is invoked against Iran, but not against the aggressors. While Canada condemns Iranian attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure and the killing of their nationals, it does not do the same for US-Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure or civilians.

Recently had the latest episode of The Breach Show appear on my Fedi feed. Decided to play it, and it was a great listen to supplement other things I was doing.

I was hoping to find more left-wing Canadian political podcasts. My issue with a lot of Canadian political content is either that it's too American-centred (Rational National is great but comes to mind as an example), or has important information, but is, to me, unexciting and boring to listen to (The Breakdown Alberta unfortunately comes to mind here).

I'm looking for stuff that's informative, Canada-centred, and entertaining to listen to. If anybody knows of stuff that fits the bill, feel free to let me know.

During the 2017 NDP leadership campaign Singh got:

The Provincial picture is less clear. Under current interim leader Trevor Halford, the BC Conservative trail the David Eby led NDP by almost 2 points. 38.6% to 36.8%. When testing potential BC Conservative leadership candidates, each of Elliott, Black, Findlay and Milobar lead the NDP but only Peter Milobar would result in a clear majority BC Conservative majority.

This doesn't look like the voter motivator we're hoping to get out of the leadership contest.
