Internet anthropology is a real field
All this needs is an amogus fella hidden in one of the blocks to add some more spice for future peoples
It seemed much cooler back when it was called cyber-anthropology. Second Life seemed like it was going to be much more important than it turned out to be, among other things.
Well you see, one time a web comic guy who only knew one punchline decided to try to tell a sad story...
...with absolutely no context or lead up, leading to a massive tonal whiplash for the reader.
In his defence, it could have been good if it was a TV show or something. It just didnt work in webcomic form. Plenty of comedy shows have tried (and succeeded) to turn the sad on out of nowhere and suckerpunch the audience.
His audienthe mce already had a habit of trolling him. I remember the forums being particularly toxic. People fucking hated Tim Buckley well before he made a 4 panel comic about a miscarriage.
I didn't mind Buckley's art, but I was one of the people who bitched about B^U. Not on the forums tho, that shit was nuclear waste levels of toxic like you said.
I mean, Ethan found out Lilah was pregnant several weeks earlier. You don't get a lot of warning for a miscarriage.
I know, I've been there. But a comic isn't a baby, and it gets published on your schedule. I completely understand needing to process, but it's no surprise it's become a meme with the way it was presented.
