Keep calling your representatives, this bill cannot pass in any form.
This bill is essentially mandating all companies with online portals or websites to retain any and all data on all Canadians that visit said sites. That means online shopping, talking on WhatsApp or messages, phone calls made, talking with a lawyer, talking with a therapist. Any and all interactions you do over the internet period.
All this data is be be retained by those individual services provides.
This leads to a huge security issue, who retains this information, how do companies secure this-information, how do Canadians ask to be deleted from online services they no longer use? How does a small company pay for the infrastructure to store this data, do they file it on site or send it somewhere of premises. When a company is hacked how are Canadians protected from sensitive information being leaked?
Saddly my do nothing back bencher MP has already told me that the conservatives are all for this horse shit because it “protects children,” sure protect the kiddos but when I was young I knew how to get around stuff just like the kiddos of today will figure out how to get around stuff. If they do not know how to get around shit they will have a friend who will, when I was in high school I was helping people get around blocked web pages every school day except the first Thursday of the month or something like that because that was when the IT person came to the school to do the check ups on the server.
