Oh... Neil Gaiman... Their books conflict me, now. I used to love them.
Yeah I’m the same, this way he’s not getting the money? It’s all for charity. Donated books.
I figure, if it's used, get them. No point in letting a book go to waste. I saw American Gods, Good Omens, and Anansi Boys at the used bookstore recently and grabbed all of them.
edit: Wow, I also bought a couple by Isaac Asimov. We seem to be catching up on the same authors, lol.
My read Asimovs, not included stuff he’s been editor on like anthologies.
And up until today my too be read Asimovs, I am actually currently reading Nine Tomorrows, couple repeats unfortunately.
I enjoyed watching American Gods, the wife enjoyed Good Omens with me. So we will likely pirate the finale episode when it’s out.
Dang, that is a nice collection! I picked up Foundation's Edge and Asimov's Guide to Science (apparently, originally titled The Intelligent Man's Guide to Science). Those are the only two things of his that I have. I've been wanting to read I, Robot for years, though.
Foundations and his larger universe is fantastic. There’s a few issues as he didn’t decide to combine them until 20 years after starting, but it flows enough.
I'm looking forward to it -- I went back to the same bookstore yesterday and found a copy of The Foundation Trilogy.
If you can find a used copy, the graphic novel version of Stardust by Charles Vess is GLORIOUS.
You can still enjoy the art, and not support the artist by buying it used (or pirating it).
An artist turning out to be an utter piece of shit is, in my opinion, one of the better reasons for piracy.
I feel like it's especially hard in this case though, like a lot of what his works are doing thematically and the topics they cover comes off as really dark and fucked up in light of what he did.
enjoying the art is still support his image. same goes for people who still support HP despite what rowling as supported and is supporting currently. i watched yt video one time a guest said something about crosby, how supporting/watching his shows or content is still wrong and she went along the lines he mightve gotten his comedic inspiration from SA women. same goes with nutrek and paramount how does someone watch a "progressive show" and support someone like ellison through subscription.
Yeah real shame he turned out to be a total piece of shit, but can't touch his stuff now
his shows wouldve gotten better(as in better props and acting), if he had not done all those things.
I saw a really great quote recently by gianmarco soresi (I'm paraphrasing here): widespread cancel culture had led to people denying that their favorite authors could possibly have done horrible things.
It also creates an environment where people reject nuance for simplistic black and white thinking.
A work can be a masterpiece and also have been created by a monster.
The author of Shakespeare's works almost certainly expressed viewpoints that would be unacceptable to us. This doesn't mean that Hamlet is suddenly not worth experiencing.
