If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"
Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.
Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.
We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.
See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.

Is it weird to like this? I feel like this would be hella comfortable. Does it have buttons on the side for the fingers? Because that would be cool as hell.
Yes there are buttons. Search for vertical mouse. Several companies make them.
A lot of people like them.
I used a vertical mouse for a while and found that it puts more strain on my shoulder and ended up going back. Your mileage may vary
You have to sit pretty strangely, like leaned back with your arm fully against your side so the weight of your forearm pushes into you rather than pulling on your shoulder. It does trade a LOT of hand strain for a slight bit of shoulder strain though.
I've got a vertical mouse and I love it. hell I had to use a regular one at work recently and it felt sooooo wrong to use. there's definitely an adjustment period in the beginning but humans are nothing if not adaptable. I recommend 100%
I have the Logitech Lift which is quite comfortable to use. They also have a bigger one called the MX Vertical. But many people say it’s a bit too large for them so I bought the Lift since I don’t have big hands.
My girlfriend has a fused wrist. She started developing a lot of pain during/after work using a regular mouse. I got her the Lift, she's been using it for over a year and loves it. She did say it takes a bit getting used to it.
Ergonomic mice almost all look like this
I thought it was a pencil sharpener
I used a vertically oriented mouse like that for a while when I had RSI. Also mapped mouse keys to the keyboard with autohotkey, just for variation. These days have a kensington 'expert mouse' trackball and on my laptop its the trackpad like everyone else.
Got a cheap bluetooth/2.5Ghz trackball for my laptop, and wow, those are SO nice when you don't have a lot of space to work with.
I hope some mid-level enthusiast trackballs that aren't ridiculously boutique become a thing soon haha.
