I remember as a youth (think 10-12) I had multiple online "relationships" with people who outwardly told me they were 20, 24, 30, 19... etc. etc. This was on WoW and IMVU.
Some of them knew I was 10-12. Others thought I was 15.
I also had some pretty good online relationships that I look back on both fondly and cringily... with others my own age.
They both have pursued further integration with the larger global economy, but (mostly) the U.S. keeps them from doing so via overwhelming sanctions and the Cuban embargo.
