My dad loves his 'right' to say racial slurs so much, especially the n-word because he feels like growing up in a black community and being friends with black people when he was younger gives him a lifetime n-word pass or something. He's gotten even worse since he got on social media—back to the point of 12 years old levels of edgy racism 'humor' and laughing at calling people slurs. I swear he drops the hard r every ten seconds. Similar with my mom although she draws the line at the hard r I guess.

Its funny that my parents wanna be black so bad without acknowledging more than what is blatantly obvious about the black struggle in this country. They're listening to Tupac songs and worshipping him as the best rapper to ever live without acknowledging who he actually was at all because communism doesn't fit their worldview. All while claiming the right to say racial slurs and giggle like schoolchildren whenever they find it funny.

Even my cousins can't stop saying slurs man, I'm so tired of it. Somehow I'm the weird one when I ask them to stop.

Florida is such a shithole, man

So in the last years i've usually mainly been reading books on my e-reader, and it's true that it's quite convenient (and potentially cheaper too), i won't deny that.

But recently, as i was travelling, on a whim i decided to buy some physical books again, and man, there's just something about holding an actual real book in your hand that is just irreplaceable.

It's such a satisfying feeling just to hold and open one, and such a wonderful reading experience to turn real pages. Electronic devices just feel so cold and sterile where physical books feel warm and homey. Even the woody smell... I had almost forgotten how in love i am with paper books.

the same asshats who turned against the party because their life was bad under western sanctions are now telling us that we will just have to work harder under the capitalist system they helped establish. i have no respect for them.

Just got on xiaohongshu the other day and am wondering why the homepage is full of such weird posts. A lot of posts asking foreigners if they are attractive and some strangely pro-US stuff everywhere, even asking if Trump actually secretly means well and has a heart of gold or something. The comments are even worse at times being outright racist, and it's not super uncommon. Not common but not very rare either, maybe once every 10-15 posts. What's up with that? Is it cuz my public IP is US-Based?

I've been having a lotta discussions around the Ukrianian Russian conflict and exploring the history with my friend. But they keep bringing up a claim that neither I nor they can find the source for.

The Claim is; Russia, Donetsk, Crimea and Luhansk at some point have suppressed the Ukrainian language. Specifically Since 2014.

Ukraines suppression of Russian is not contested, nor is Putins position on Ukranian identity.

Is there any proof of such a thing happening? I've taken the discussions previously as if its true because I don't really know enough about the conflict but after extensive searching I cant find anything.

Never thought i would see mainstream reddit talk about surveillance as a means of defending the people's revolution and not get downvoted to hell.

I have noticed a shorter usage of words that aren't used much anymore

Social predator

Mattering

Importance

Prioritize

Courage

Desensitized

Taboo

Etc., etc., etc.

Is anyone else noticing this?

It seems in the last twenty years, the focus of our language has shifted.

Among other things.

What do you think?

(Also, id you have indeed come across these words several times recently, just know that that is NOT the point; just that I have noticed that there are certain words that aren't used anymore.and I want to know if any of you have noticed that too)

Scared of Moving Out (lemmygrad.ml)
submitted 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) by LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml to c/comradeship@lemmygrad.ml

I am thinking that moving out is my only option, but I did some research and being unhoused is basically illegal in America due to how local ordinances restrict sleeping outside and stuff.

I am scared and I do not know what to do.

Also, sorry for stating this again, but I am too traumatized to enter college again and my parents will force me to work at their place (they are awful to me and they likely contributed to my mental health issues).

I am also sorry for saying I might have to move out repeatedly, but I am truthful when I say that I might have only a few days to come up with a decision.

Edit: Also, the due date for college application have passed, so I cannot attend even if I wanted to.

Edit 2: In terms of applying for housing help, one program I asked about had a waitlist for several months (which is likely the same for many organizations), and others were not even long-term shelters in the first place. It feels like escaping my parents will be difficult (even though I am already an adult).

Edit 3: I just remembered that someone recommended that I do something on a website where you worked for housing, but it turns out that I could not even do that due to the fact that it required something I did not have! Also, I must repeat that I did not finish college and have very little work experience.

Additional context: I cannot drive, am mentally ill, had bad experiences from my last college, and I have no support network nearby. No one can help me with housing and housing programs will likely take months to allow housing to me.

I Feel a Type of Way (lemmygrad.ml)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by Maeve@lemmygrad.ml to c/comradeship@lemmygrad.ml

I had put off visiting former neighbors in a nursing home* until I got my house in order and had planned to go yesterday. One was in the end stages of cancer, I missed him by about 12 hours. On top of this, I heard about the holier-than-thou, rent-seeking type of neighbor (who incidentally is also an evangelist) visiting him two or three days before he passed, and telling him to beg G-d for forgiveness for all the nasty things he did, when well.

It's going to be hard to keep my mouth shut and not tell her to do the same. Why keep quiet? If I say anything, she'll use it as justification and confirmation that she's doing G-d's work, being "persecuted" for it, and go harder.

Adulting, bleh.

if you don’t magically have the funds to leave your domestic abuse then dont document it on the internet or ask for emotional support / leaving an abusive boyfriend is 100% intellectual and if you’re emotionally struggling to do it you are WEAK (“leave him or leave us out of it”)

Now that I'm able to go back out a bit, I feel really embarrassed because I look rough as hell. My hair is falling out, I've got bad oedema so I'm swollen and puffy, my skin is destroyed, all red and covered in eczema and various infections. Yesterday in the supermarket I got mistaken for a man, and it's not even the first time it has happened. A little kid was blocking my path and her mum said, "Mind out of the way, a man is trying to get past." I've had a shop attendant previously say "here you go, sir," when handing me my item. I've had random strangers loudly make fun of the way I walk (I have problems walking since having a stroke) and an older couple even laughed and made fun of me after one of my foot surgeries because I was wearing plastic shoe cover bags on my feet instead of shoes.

I just feel so embarrassed going out at all but I hate being stuck indoors.

Random US gangbangers? Barely human savages

Mexican Drug Cartels? Heavily armed savages

Russian Mob? Well dressed savages

Random muslims that just so happen to be criminals? I can't even type what they call them.

But the Italians? Suave, well-spoken, extremely resourceful and classy.

I'm not sure what causes it. The most famous mob movies all talk about how they're ultimately a bunch of backstabbers but they're still so heavily mythologized. It wasn't even that long ago that they had influence, we're talking the late 80s where things started to take a turn.

Most of us think we are running away from the government, our parents, politics, toxic *, G-d, and that's a thing, for sure. Beyond that, maybe most of us are running from our whole beautiful, ugly, kind, toxic, helping, hindering selves. And we can't abandon portions of ourselves without abandoning our whole selves. Religions and philosophies, political or even scientific theory that would kept us fragmented and compartmentalized (without us recognizing it, which deprives us of informed consent or "free will") benefit from us denying ugly or beautiful parts of ourselves, but we are definitely harmed by it.

Every mythos has some version of the fall from innocence (naïveté) to knowledge of good and evil and this is where "sin" or "ignorance" or "kama / karma" or whatever you call it originates. This is like being kicked out of the Garden (PaRDeS) and archangels guarding the entrances with flaming swords. Joni Mitchell wrote:

We are stardust, we are golden We are billion-year-old carbon And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden

Well, then can I walk beside you? I have come to lose the smog And I feel myself a cog In somethin' turning

And maybe it's the time of year Yes, and maybe it's the time of man And I don't know who I am But life is for learning

Acceptance of our dark sides, and integrating it so that we become whole again gets us past the flaming swords (swords representing thoughts, words/truth, depending on context, that are painful ti encounter, let alone sit with and examine... A place of fire and brimstone, of wailing and gnashing of teeth).

The thumbnail image is the Vetruvian Man, a pentacle, representing our feelings (cups or hearts) lead to our ideas lead to the stories we tell ourselves, and they're ill-informed, educated guesses, at best (remember how scientific theory changes as the data changes), and fairy tales and horror stories about people, places, and things we make up to tell ourselves as a still extremely primitive way of making sense of things we don't understand, at worst. There's no shame in it, it's a very natural thing to do, but the stories may not be normal, as in healthy, despite whether they are or not normative. This all culminates into the manifestation of what our lives look like, pentacles, representing materiality, the earthly realm. The fifth point, "spirit" or "Äthers" is our passion /drive/willpower, depending on context.

What we can do about it that leads us back to the garden is embracing ourselves, reparenting ourselves, when necessary. But to change our materiality for the better, we first need "better" ideas, to lead us to "better stories" that lead to "better" (not necessarily "fun" or "pleasant") feelings, that eventually lead to practice in the material world, which leads to better results, which lead to better stories, which lead to better ideas, ad infinitum. That is the mystical meaning of this symbol. ♾️ This symbol 🌀 means we start with an extremely egocentric view as babies (we haven't learned differentiation yet, neverminding "seeing the whole world as self," in a healthy, positive way), and keep encountering a set of ideas or feelings, but as we mature, we have different vantage points (Zen story of three blind men and an elephant), so while we are still in childlike or adolescent thinking, they look very different, but it's still the same thing, until we mature enough, and we realize, "I've been here before. This, that, and the third did not yield the effects I'd hoped, here is something different to try that may or not yield the results I want, so let's see what happens." Remember, "insanity is trying the same things over and over again, expecting different results" (rightly or wrongly attributed to Einstein). But we still have to try and fail enough times, sometimes, for something to actually work, like riding a bike or practicing a slam dunk, or drawing hands or feet or noses, before we realize, "Hey this isn't working for me. Does it matter, or am I doing this for fun?“ Perhaps as importantly, can I laugh at, accept, and love myself, whether it matters or not?" The paradoxes of being human, amirite?

Anyway, world religions and philosophies are all endeavoring to point to this, with a lot more words, at least the honest ones. The dishonest ones amend, edit, abridge and keep you at the milk (literal meanings) of babies, rather than the meat of the esoteric meanings ( From my religious tradition: Matthew 13: 10 The disciples came up and asked, “Why do you tell stories?”

11-15 He replied, “You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn’t been given to them. Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. That’s why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward a welcome awakening. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they’re blue in the face and not get it. I don’t want Isaiah’s forecast repeated all over again:

Your ears are open but you don’t hear a thing. Your eyes are awake but you don’t see a thing. The people are stupid! They stick their fingers in their ears so they won’t have to listen; They screw their eyes shut so they won’t have to look, so they won’t have to deal with me face-to-face and let me heal them.

And 1 Corinthians 3, 1-3: Brothers, I could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to worldly, even as to babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk and not with solid food. For to this day you were not able to endure it. Nor are you able now, 3 for you are still worldly. Since there is envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not worldly and behaving as mere men?)

Anyway, take what you need, leave the rest. Some things aren't for us, yet, and sometimes never.

"Do what you will shall be the whole of the law. Love is law, love under will."
