That's a fair criticism (though you're overlooking how anger at Trump and disappointment in the Dem establishment contribute to help leftwing politics), but it's also not the original point. You started out talking about not voting, which is what I was addressing. Not participating is a different conversation entirely, which someone better informed about the nitty gritty of American progressive organization than me should be having.

People who voted Biden in the primary weren't voting to change the party

The primary where nobody except Biden actually ran. For all intents and purposes, there was no presidential primary in 2024.

There was no primary in 2024 though. I'm not sure who you're arguing with here.

It's clear you didn't read a single damn word I wrote and just wanted to rant. Unless you respond to literally anything I said, this conversation is over.

First don't muddy the waters with things like "far from ideal;" we know what she was: a genocidal piece of shit. To some people there's a maximum number of pictures of dismembered children after which these things don't matter anymore.

On the other hand, from an electoral strategy standpoint it's not like weathering the Trump storm is going to mean victory for democracy; MAGA is ultimately a product of current living conditions, and Trump is nothing more than the demagogue they coalesced around. They're only going to get worse until either democracy collapses or someone (probably a leftist) changes things for the better. Time is on their side, not yours. Vote blue no matter who is only an optimal strategy if you refuse to think about anything beyond the next four years. These people made the price of their vote abundantly clear as part of an organized large movement; they did everything right and the Democrats refused to listen.

I mean, you can think whatever you want, but in concrete terms what are you afraid that he'll do?

TIL that technology can have political opinions.

Again, this only becomes relevant to policy if El-Sayed has said he plans to vote according to this or that Islamic ruling. To my knowledge he's said no such thing.

I don't see anything about Islam or women in El-Sayed's platform though, so that's irrelevant.

I'm not sure how washing my hair is supposed to help yours, but if it works it works I guess.

Welcome to the third world (somewhat). Source: Am from the third world.

Disclaimer: Not pro-Russian apologia.

Context: The discourse around this. Plenty of libs who think terror bombing is okay if it's for a good cause.

PS: Arguments that the bombings had proportional military goals could be true (though I doubt it) but not really relevant to the point, because a good number of libs do assume it's terror bombing and apologize accordingly.

Particularly infuriating when it comes from third world liberals who are being oppressed and exploited by these institutions.

I can never get used to how easily they go mask-off.

Context: In Islam people must be identified by their paternal lineage, meaning one's patronym/last name/however their culture identifies paternal ancestry must tie to their father. This is because the Quran says "call them by the names of their fathers" (Quran 33:5), and while the verse was talking about adoption the principle is unanimously interpreted to apply in general.

A prominent Israeli legal organization alleges the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is promoting a politically one-sided narrative.

...how is The Onion still in business again?

May we anger libs forevermore (or at least until the revolution).

@recursive_recursion@lemmy.ca banned me from Lemmy.ca, with the following explanation:

Fascism and genocide apologia and propaganda. Fedia.io mods/admins what the fuck guys

which... yeah I don't think I did that. I messaged them twice (once on their .ca account and once on their Piefed account) and got no response. I have no idea how to prove wrongdoing on their part since no particular comment or post was highlighted, but the last thing I said on a .ca comm before the ban was this, which is like what? I didn't say anything even remotely close to fascism and I seriously have no idea what brought that on; anyway glances at the rules I guess it would be nice if the ban was revoked so I can go shit on Carney on c/Canada.

When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons. Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.
