12kg Müll sind objektiv natürlich nicht viel. Vermutlich gilt beim Müll sortieren aber auch das Paretoprinzip: 80% der Ergebnisse können mit 20% des Gesamtaufwandes erreicht werden. Die verbleibenden 20% der Ergebnisse erfordern mit 80% des Gesamtaufwandes die meiste Arbeit.
Diese 12kg sind die verbleibenden 20% (oder zumindest ein Teil davon) die sonst nur mit viel größerem Aufwand zuverlässig sortiert werden können.
I suspect the real reason is those older Kindles allowed to remove the DRM from any media loaded onto them via Amazon. Because the decryption key is the serial number written on the back of the device.
If those devices are not supported anymore, they don't need to issue these easily breakable DRM protected ebooks anymore.
