Hey, I can't figure how to edit the wiki so I'll post the following information here. The links for anna's archive are no longer working. Here are the updated ones, they are the ones listed on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna%27s_Archive

I've just started going through it to make any necessary updates since it was originally ported over from the rentry version a few months ago. It will likely take me a couple of days to finish updates. But we would ideally like our members to help out with keeping it up-to-date after that with any breaking changes.

Edit: I've updated all the megathread wiki pages now to bring them up to date with the current rentry version. But we can expect some divergence from this point on as our members make edits.

If I don't upload, will my ISP be less likely to file a copyright complaint? No, it is unlawful to download or upload copyrighted content. (based on the laws of your nation). Though, uploading (sharing) copyrighted content is a more severe offence. https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/isp-complaints/

so first, it definitely depends on the law, where i live downloading is perfectly legal, it is just uploading that is illegal.

second, how would they get list of downloading people? they would have to be uploading first and then saving a list of clients downloading from them, which is quite resource heavy activity, just checking who is offering something is far easier.

and as a person working for the isp in the past, i honestly don't remember deleting any complaints that someone was downloading something, all the complains were about upload.

so i think the answer to this question is definite yes, getting a complaint about download is like million times less likely

Yes it's being deprecated on Lemmy c/piracy, and we would ideally like our members to help out with keeping the Community Edition up-to-date with any breaking changes. TBH the rentry version is very Reddit-focused and there is no direct community involvement with it from the Lemmy side, which is one of the reasons for the change.
