Manjaro Linux is a really bad choice. I’d like my gaming console to be able to update if I turn it on after two years.

Agreed it's like they heard steamos is based on Arch and didn't understand the work that went to marking it immutable

True, but I still prefer this to Windows.

As someone not familiar with Manjaro, what is it about Manjaro that would prevent it from updating?

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

Nothing inherently, but it’s a rolling release, so the further away from the latest versions you are, the more likely something is going to prevent you from updating. Arch is the same way, but Steam OS is based on Arch snapshots, not a rolling release.

You kinda have to watch after rolling releases pretty constantly in order to keep them up to date and make sure they don’t get left behind.

Wait who? Last time I heard of Orange Pi they were a knock-off SBC manufacturer..

Manjaro... but why?

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 months ago

Considering it's made by Orange Pi, I was going to say "Cool, another 'Android' gaming handheld" but it actually is x86.

(Yes, I know the headline says it's running Manjaro. I figured it'd be running Waydroid or similar.)

Nuke Manjaro and install SteamOS on it: A decent, if dated hardware, handheld.

Make it a tiny laptop and we'll talk, Orange pastries.

Manjaro

Not my flavor, but it just proves it'll run anything else.

I want a low spec Linux GPD Win for less than $400(not used) for use as a terminal and cyberdeck.

Wow, I thought the project died. I'm glad it's still hear. The feature set looks to be the best of these style devices
