Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

American Christianity is the vessel of American Nazism

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 81 points 1 year ago (3 children)

In 2015, I disliked Christianity, but harbored no desire to see it eliminated from society entirely. "An' harm ye none..."

Now, in 2025, I'm convinced that democracy can only survive in the long run if Christianity, as a social force, dies entirely.

All religion is partially to blame for the stupidity of our species.

Christianity is directly responsible for the fascism in America.

It’s inextricably linked.

If this offends you, go pray or something.

[–] ShoeThrower@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not religion to blame, it's the tribalism encouraged by most religions.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Religion provides an excuse to ignore logic.

Religion is to blame.

Art does not strictly adhere to logic and realism.

Ban art.

Everything must be facts and logic! 🤓

The fundamental flaw are the religions that have it baked into them that one of their core tenets is that they have to convert other people to their beliefs, by any means necessary. Otherwise, they have failed at their own religion. It's almost like an MLM scheme.

Thanks for sharing the info. Man that flag was kinda cool during the revolution and now it's cringe and stupid.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, yes, but you see, Harris failed to rebuke Biden on the campaign trail, so. Obviously this needed to happen.

sounds like they're giving us the green-light to rebel.

pine tree flag

The phrase "Appeal to Heaven" is a particular expression of the right of revolution used by British philosopher John Locke in his Second Treatise on Government. The work was published in 1690 and rejected the theory of the divine right of kings. In chapter 14:

And where the body of the people, or any single man, is deprived of their right, or is under the exercise of a power without right, and have no appeal on earth, then they have a liberty to appeal to heaven, whenever they judge the cause of sufficient moment. And therefore, though the people cannot be judge, so as to have, by the constitution of that society, any superior power, to determine and give effective sentence in the case; yet they have, by a law antecedent and paramount to all positive laws of men, reserved that ultimate determination to themselves which belongs to all mankind, where there lies no appeal on earth, viz. to judge, whether they have just cause to make their appeal to heaven.

It's extremely generous of you to assume they know anything other than the most brain-stemmy calculous of "fabric word say heaven, it's talking about the thing I like."

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 14 points 1 year ago

Oh, have I EVER seen a better case of "barking at the wrong tree"!

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago

Its current context is that of Armageddon.

The people who fly that flag these days are members of or supporting the end times accelerationist group, NAR, the New Apostolic Reformation.

The only thing they want to rebel against is life on earth so Jesus can come back.

See my post in this thread and search my other comments for NAR and 7 MM (7 mountain mandate).

This is a good one to start with: https://lemmy.ca/post/32347799/12610094

Evangelicals are such dupes, they things the political right cares about them when they only give a shit about their vote.

At the same time the political right are such dupes, they think the evangelicals care about them when really they just want too use them to jump start rapture.

It's like two guys trying to pickpocket each other so hard they end up wearing each other's pants.

"They’re believers, Mr. Howard. Pentecostalist dispensationalists—they are saved, but they are surrounded by the unsaved, and they think their master is returning imminently, and anyone who isn’t saved by the time of his arrival is doomed. So they intend to save everyone whether or not they want to be saved..."

--Charles Stross, The Apocalypse Codex

I trailed off that quote because it's a spoiler.

Hmm, a doomsday cult inching their way towards the nukes.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why is there a pine tree on it?

[–] lastunusedusername2@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Marty ran over the other one

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

No more calls, please. We have a winner!

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

They do not know who they are trying to appeal to

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Orginized religion needs to be banned

Not an establishment of religion at all. Everyone believes in heaven right? /s

On June 11, Kelly Loeffler, the former senator from Georgia and current administrator of the SBA, participated in a ceremony where a new flag of the United States was raised over the agency’s headquarters. Just beneath that flag, on what appeared to be the same halyard, was an Appeal to Heaven flag. Sources tell WIRED that the “Appeal to Heaven” flag was raised for less than a day.

Oh she’s a piece of shit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Loeffler#COVID-19_insider_trading_investigation
