Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

AN UNPRECEDENTED LEAK of Department of Homeland Security records has exposed details of more than 41,000 employees or contractors who work for the department and its constituent agencies. The records include email addresses, phone numbers, and office addresses, but also references to internal systems and sensitive information on undercover and surveillance programs. In all, the leak provides a map of how DHS is organized and how it operates.

The records, which span DHS itself as well as seven component agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US Customs and Border Protection, were last updated on August 19, 2026. The transparency nonprofit Distributed Denial of Secrets and cybersecurity researcher and journalist maia arson crimew previewed the data to WIRED, which they say they obtained from a group calling itself the Department of Peace.

6,200 belong to US Citizenship and Immigration Services

Who wants to bet there are 6,200 people who don't hide who they work for. This group is often working hard to keep things going as they should.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 hours ago

Never forgive a single one. Where are the names? Look up your local SS agent to shun.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 39 points 10 hours ago

Damn.

It would really suck if someone went to http://icepi.cx/ and found out how to torrent these files. Of course, that would be ridiculous.

No kidding. I’d be real interested to see this list.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 6 hours ago

probably alot of sex offendors, SA-ers, and plenty of hispanics and AA they seem keen to hire, its designed to direct anger towards non-whites.

It seems to me that ICE would be far better off conducting its business in such a way as to not be worried about being publicly identifiable. Regular police officers are able to do their duties without masks and with the requirement to display their badges, and I dare ICE to claim that regular police don't do work as dangerous as ICE.

Obviously undercover work is the exception, but when the entirety of ICE goes around masked, they'd be fools not to expect an overcorrection.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 54 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Regular police are still generally unaccountable thugs

[–] Tango@piefed.ca 59 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Which makes it all the more crazy that ICE feels that it needs additional unaccountability beyond what already covers cops for so much.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 11 points 9 hours ago

It's because they know they're an authoritarian paramilitary group and they are doing things that they could personally be tried for treason if their side ends up losing, like they always do eventually.

They don't want to be personally identifiable if possible, because at any point someone could decide to Kirk them when they're not in their goon squad at work.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Don't give them too much benefit of the doubt, more than a handful in incidents where standard beat cops are quick to hide their badge numbers when being legally recorded by innocent bystanders

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Just heard a report that said essentially there are more local law enforcement doing the job than actual ICE agents.

maybe we should treat locals like ice not the other way around? also, don't call them local. they don't live in the places where they enforce. say municipal.

DDoSecrets published the archive, which it calls "Icepick," on Wednesday. In a press release, DDoSecrets says the data is from DHS's Okta login system. In a note with the files, the hackers wrote, “They have our information, so it's only fair that we have theirs.”

[–] cass1312@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Wait it was Maia arson crimew again! Holy fucking bingle. (Edit: it did the front end and reporting, not the actual hack this time, but still lol)

Hopefully those ICE agents are disappeared...into the forests and oceans, or becoming strange fruits. They are domestic terrorists and human traffickers.

Good. Maybe a little unmasking will put some fear into these caustic little shitheads.

They only behave the way that they do because their superiors have emboldened their basest instincts and shielded them from retaliation .

If these guys ever thought thay consequences might catch up with them, they'll be out the door in no time flat.

Protect their families and show them the horrible truth of what their significant other/parent is doing? I wholeheartedly agree. Shame them publicly.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Like their families aren't encouraging it. Also, what shame? These people have none. They only hide to try to avoid consequences.

Oh no! Everyone spread the word so that people know to not look at the data! In fact, save a local copy of it in case you need to show someone what data to avoid looking at 🙂‍↕️

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

There is definitely a computer that is 10,000,000% in NL (and super duper is not anywhere near my home since I don't live in the Netherlands) that already downloaded a copy released on the DDoSecrets data portal.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 6 hours ago

Thank goodness someone has a copy to protect from prying eyes!

Remember, security is a team effort! So the more people there are keeping a secure copy of this data, the more secure it will be!

You know, just to be sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands 😏

I love the Rinehart icon thingy. Well done. No notes.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It is an amazing portrait of a horrible horrible person.

The specific reason that I have it as my avatar relates to some unfunny moderators on one of the communities here. There was a rinehart story, and I was being cheeky by requesting a good portrait, so I could put a face to the name. Someone posted the portrait, and the moderators pulled it.

My mature response was to use the portrait as my avatar, and to ensure that I comment on that community every now and then, to make sure that the portrait gets seen all the fucking time.

I'm not even Australian.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 1 points 6 hours ago

Hah. I think that's the only appropriate response given that Rinehart tried to strisand that portrait.

What was the purported reason for a mod removing it?

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 27 points 13 hours ago
[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 13 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Now let's watch americans do nothing with that list and just look at it and say "haha got u"

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Oh look another doomerist who would literally never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever do what they suggest others are cowards for not doing. Cool.

[–] barooboodoo@lemmy.zip 9 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

What should they do with it?

[–] sudoshakes@reddthat.com 11 points 11 hours ago

Actions that is described in his forum would result in bans and evidence given to the state.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Protests, Research, embarrassment.

I'm absolutely certain that the majority of these scumbags do not want their communities to know what they do.

[–] cheers_queers@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

add mass prosecution to the list. i'm thinking deport anyone involved in perpetrating or signing off on ICE brutality. preferably to antarctica.

[–] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 8 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Link up!!! Share it far and wide

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

You should definitely NOT go to https://icepi.cx/ and NOT download the torrent of this database.

[–] nailingjello@piefed.zip 17 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

If they got this info from Okta, does that mean other companies using Okta are vulnerable?

[–] pageflight@piefed.social 8 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

My guess is they just phished someone's Okta administration credentials.

[–] SynAcker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 hours ago

Normally you have an okta policy that forces mfa to okta verify for access to the admin panel. If that wasn't set up, this is a monumental fuck up by the admins.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Probably. It's a US company so it'll always fail with minimal consequences, as compared to a state service or country with regulation.

It's a case of when and how often.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 11 hours ago

This doesn't read like a security issue on the part of Okta but rather on the part of DHS.

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

Damn, thats crazy...

good to hear
