Unironically true.

Fun Exercise for you: look up private schools in the South and check what years they were founded.

Conservative/fascists are equal opportunity in their hate of education for the children of anybody other than the rich and maybe the upper middle class, both because the uneducated are far easier to manipulate into supporting those very people (who at best despise them) and because they and their very wealthy mates hate paying taxes to fund the schooling of those children.

This shit so common amongst American Liberals of making the whole thing be about Race (curiously, just like the Fascists, who also like to make everything be about Race) when it's very little about Race and instead is mainly about Wealth, is playing the game of the wealthy elites since it serves only to divide people as "differently worthy" and "differently victimized" based on their ethnicity (in other words, Racial Discrimination) in a situation where they're all being screwed by the conservatives/fascists and they're more likely to win together, not artificially split by ethnicity into groups.

Add this on as well: They have to explain to themselves and those they wish to influence why the educated trend liberal.

People don't remember that it took the military to integrate the schools.

"Back people" sound like tribes of tiny humanoids that live in the undergrowth of hairy backs.

Or the dark side of Bender's shiny metal ass.

I was a god once.

Yes, you were doing well until everyone died.

This sounds like a Rick and Morty episode.

Maybe the South Park lice episode.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

South Park lice episode was a direct inspiration, so you're on the money.

Well, sure. They hate black people especially, but they also try to keep the general public as dumb as possible. You know, so that their propaganda works better and people are easier to influence.

Jokes aside it was a shift starting with the 1960s civil rights movement. Lindon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law as well as Food Stamps and various welfare policies, which while a big departure from the then Democrat platform did have a very big impact on the image of the party and over the years led to more progressives running as Democrats and voting for Democrats, while another demographic never voting for them ever again.

The image below depicts partisan splits in congress dotting how likely each rep was to vote with the other party.

What happened in 1995?

Also, what do the grey lines (smudges) represent?

Newt Gingrich happened. He introduced a brand of total war in politics that rejected all compromise.

Gingrich deserves his place in the history books for accelerating the downfall of the American empire through needless and reckless infighting.

Newt Gingrich

Ah that name rings a bell, but nothing more. A quick read of his Wikipedia page is... eyebrow raising.

I'd have assumed the Speaker is supposed to be nominally neutral. Harbinger of the death of your democracy he is.

Big beautiful Bill

Fuck that, it's the haves vs the have nots. Quit supporting them breaking up by generation/race/culture.

It's a class war.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Normally I'd agree with you, just not in this case. It's not even a matter of debate. You can draw direct lines from the start of integration to basically half of the current Republican parties platform. I mean the second schools integrated, and the Department of Education was created, Republicans started working to destroy it. It's half the reason the alliance between the religious right and the Republican Party exists. That's why they champion charter schools. So many lines you can draw directly here. And they all come back to conservatives hating the idea of black kids getting educated, more specifically educated next to white kids.

You can't fight a class war without remembering where you're fighting it.

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

It was also partly that a lot of the racists against integration became Republicans at that time. The racially-segregated South predominantly voted Democrat before then, but the ideologies of each party shifted when Republicans decided they would prefer to be racist to attract more racist voters and win elections

Middle class Liberals doing the Divide et Impera work amongst the poor and working class so that the ultra-rich can keep in power their political minions whilst they steal from everybody else, is Modern America in a nutshell.

[–] whalesnrainbows@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Class reductionism is largely unhelpful. Class war requires a genuinely united working class, and racism is one of the primary weapons of capitalism used to keep the working class weak. Dismissing racism instead of directly working to dismantle it hurts the cause.

Well that is the point of the post, isn't it? Right winger supporters are swallowing corpo/oligarch manufactured propaganda promoting racism, misogynism, ageism and all other sorts of bigotry against outgroups as the reason for their political ideals.

And it is all constructed to obfuscate against the real issue of class war. But actually understanding that issue requires complex thinking of how society actually functions (a lot of people aren't even aware that they are working class for example), while biogtry reduces the problem to a very simple us vs. them explanation, which even the most moronic person can understand.
