Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

That Elon is one rotten motherfuker

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's certainly never been an actual father to his children. So that's a pretty sucint description of him.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But did he ever fuck their mothers? Or just IVF?

[–] Epzillon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just IVF AFAIK, but not entirely sure

[–] DaveyRocket@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

They botched his dick up and no women wants a dude pushing a tiny rope. I have no evidence, just Elon Musk’s behavior.

[–] No1@aussie.zone 55 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Kinda to be expected. I've heard that the Polish don't get along with Nazis...

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 11 points 1 week ago

Smart Polish people don't but it turns out humanity is worthless

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Poles hate nazis so much they're about to elect a far-right government.

Sikorski wrote ‌in a post on X

ah yes, of course, as a country you have so few other lines of communication, best to use the enemy platform to be sure.

EDIT for OP: reply has been deleted, not sure what point I was making as Poland pays for Starlink.

EDIT 2: undeleted as i did not delete this quick enough it seems :/

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Seems logical to post to Elon on his account, where else would you post a message to him?

[–] crispbacon99@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

A social media platform only survives because people frequent, interact, and post. He can go any other platform because who cares if Elon sees it, he doesn't give a shit. All he's doing is validating the x platform. He can shitpost about this anywhere else

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The point is that it's a direct message from the Polish foreign minister to Elon Musk.
It would be stupid to post it anywhere else.

I absolutely hate X and everything Elon Musk, but there are situations that call for what is called proper channels.
And in this case X is the proper channel.

[–] ctrl_alt_esc@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago

No it's not, they could just do a press release or other things serious governments do

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sure, but you know, if you want to send a message to someone, best to send it in their language right? Same idea.

[–] crispbacon99@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

How about they use that time for something that would actually change anything. Like pressuring their inner party to create a plan if they ever regain power

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

It's legit fucking bonkers to go on Elon Musk's Social Media Platform because you're upset about Elon Musk's Internet Connection. FFS, at least pretend you have a Threads account or something, you hack.

Like, people want to get mad at Elon and Friends for being a pack of greedy, degenerate parasites. And they would be right to do so. But when you defend guys like Donald Tusk, who have only ever known how to kowtow to one foreign business interest or another? Slavish loyalty to the private sector got you into this mess. Vowing to maybe one day switch from Coke to Pepsi isn't going to get you out.

[–] Akh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

To be fair starlink is largely subsidized by the military

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Threads

Does Elon have an account on Threads to post to?
It's sending the message to an address where the recipient actually receives it.

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Do you think Elon musk reads everything that people @ him on twitter

[–] DGen@piefed.zip 39 points 1 week ago

Fuck Musk. Seriously.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wanted to know if a reason was given and I found it in another article:

Musk said that Starlink is not licensed to clients who are using weapons, and that the Ukrainian military was linked to a separate network called Starshield, which is operated by the US government. “This is not under SpaceX control,” Musk wrote.

The article goes on to say that the ukrainian military is using Starlink and was not warned the use would be restricted.

Reuters has an explainer article here but I still don't get it so I won't try and pull a quote lol.

When looking for that I came across an article from a previous time service was cut:

During a pivotal push by Ukraine to retake territory from Russia in late September 2022, Elon Musk gave an order that disrupted the counteroffensive and dented Kyiv’s trust in Starlink, the satellite internet service the billionaire provided early in the war to help Ukraine’s military maintain battlefield connectivity.

I'm glad the program to bring broadband internet to remote areas of my province cancelled their contract. Of course, they could always sign a new one, but relying on Starlink would make me nervous.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's complete ass that the Temu Batman villain is building out what should be the coolest fucking tech jump of our lives. I could have Internet access in places I haven't dreamed of, could do online work in the peace of the woods, but have to pay this mega blocks joker for the privilege.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For the record, this tech is also literally destroying the field of astronomy. There are so many fucking satellites from it that they are blocking views and becoming extremely close to causing kessler syndrome.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

But... But... But my convenience! How can you expect people to live without convenience?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

apparently it was starshield, starlink rebranded as a government, program. i think it was likely trump that turned it off.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Elon controls every aspect of it. Being a "government" program is just for tax fraud purposes.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

yes but Musk funded the trump campaign and Musk is trying to keep trump in office so it’s fine to also blame Musk.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Pressure the EU to issue an arrest warrant Poland!

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 week ago

Is Musk playing politics? A strongly worded question.

[–] Lor@leminal.space 6 points 1 week ago

He sure the hell is playing politics, seems like he is trying to control the world with his money.

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nothing wrong with that, wrong is the USA killing the world.
Why USA should kill kids and start wars in middle East? Why USA should have any say how the world runs?

[–] opus86@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago

Trump wants to be best friends with Putin and Musk is such a suck up he will do whatever he's told to do

[–] GrumpyGrampa@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

In capital letters blame TRUMP!…….hateful little mentally challenged degenerate!

[–] GrumpyGrampa@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

All signs point to Trump and the Pentagon…..he’s mad because Zelensky won’t give up to Trumps Big Boss, Putin!.AMARIKKKA is badly broken and should be boycotted totally by every Democratic country on this planet……
