Not. Once. Not even when Jimmy came in to work each evening with the smell of weed wafting off of him. I could probably lay rails on my work table right in front of the security camera and hit one each hour and nothing would happen.
Sure, but that's not what the policies are for. If/when someone gets injured on the job the policy is standardly they require you to take a drug test then. If you fail you were breaking policy and the injury is deemed your fault, thus taking all responsibility of paying you workers comp off the table. Happens every day across the U.S. (that said I believe you can fight it, as you aren't always automatically eliminated if you fail the drug test, you will have an up hill battle though)
I worked at a factory in the rural south the year (2022) they quietly did away with marijuana testing, even for spot violations. Turns out the standard reasoning, "the insurance company says," doesn't really matter... they didn't care and allowed a 9-panel to be used in all testing matters.
The unofficial reason I heard is, they go through the same workers on rotation, the good employees get hired back and forth. Drunks are chaotic, tweakers introduce drugs and are chaotic. Stoners are quiet and show up on time, and cause 0% of the fights, and tend to come with less of a rap sheet for terroristic threats and domestics.
They almost tripped over themselves to look the other way on my stonership...
For weed, get a medical card, if you can afford it. Usually even in recreational states you can get one and then they can't fire you for it.

You can have a prescription for opiates too.
Doesn't make it OK to be high at a job where that impairment puts you and others in danger.
That being said, there's no test for THC that has a narrow enough time window to tell if someone is currently intoxicated. Blood tests are the closest at 6h, but blood levels aren't correlated with intoxication.
I live in a state with recreational marijuana, but my current employer's policies specifically prohibit even medical marijuana, and I had to do a pre-employment drug test. Looking for a better job, but I've exhausted unemployment and all my savings, so it pays the bills for now.
“Drug-free workplace” policy language is also a requirement for a lot of government contracts in the US

They can't find enought workers that will accept shit pay and 0 benefits, but they don't like saying that.
AI sucks at screening. But everyone is doing it.
For us it's an issue with marketing the position in a manner thay doesn't result in 5,000 automated applications from an Indian headhunter firm that blindly clicks everything.
I've had a job opening at my city for weeks that pays higher than any other city in the state does for the same position, and we've had a grand total of one applicant who wasn't qualified.
Well there actually isn't anyone looking at the applications! That would cost someone $20 a hour!
I am 47, and I have never not once been tested for drugs for work.
For most of my jobs, I’m relatively certain that drugs were in fact required.
If anyone tried to test me for drugs, I would tell them to go fuck themselves, and I’d happily walk away from the interview.
I'm 36 and have been drugs tested once. They reckoned they'd seen me drop a gram of coke on camera so I got 6 weeks paid holiday.
Obviously, because nobody oopsie-daisies a gram of coke without going back to grab it, lol.
I have been drug tested several times, and I am in fact "on drugs". So, I get a call within a couple of days of getting tested to provide them with access to my pharmacy records to prove they are legally prescribed.

Yeah, most restaurants dont test for drugs for a reason.
On the flip side, I've had to take a drug test for every single job I've ever had. Most are sales related. But I travel for work so I kind of understand the need 10 years ago when everything was illegal. Now that weed is mostly legal everywhere its pointless to even test for it.
I work with a vulnerable population. In addition to every job doing piss testing my fingerprints and DNA get recorded and checked against unsolved assaults / murders. Nothing ever comes up but I always worry I'm gonna be like the last person that touched a vase before the dude that bashed somebody's head in with it and the dude who did it isn't in any databases and I'm gonna have to answer a bunch of intrusive questions.
If I wanna buy blow in whatever city I’m visiting, I always ask a bartender or a waiter for a hook up.

Anytime I have worked for fintech I’ve been tested and fully background checked every time, pretty annoying but the trade off is the pay I suppose
I live in Germany, and over here unless your employer can present a damn good safety critical reason for why you must be sober at work (e.g. operating heavy machinery) it's not even legal to randomly drug test employees.
For your standard office job, or McDonalds cashier, or even high level office positions it would all be illegal for the employer to (randomly) drug test you.
As long as you're not operating dangerous machinery, it's none of your employers business what you do off the clock at home, even if that's consuming illegal drugs. They can (obviously) ban you from being high at work, but they would reasonable suspicion to accuse of you violating that, and potentially trigger a test (which means effectively the thing that is banned is for your performance at work to be impaired by drugs. If you work equally well high as sober, and don't reek of weed when you walk in, you can pretty much just work high without risk of much consequences)
War on drugs do not aim at reducing drug trasfic nor drug use. We all know it has never been effective anywhere for any drug.
We also know that treating drug as a medical problem is the best way to reduce both use and traffic.
War on drugs are just a way to force dealers to become more professional, and avoid “freelance” ones. War on drugs are a pure win for drugs, from their start.
And to feed the prison industrial complex, of course.

I was a regular dabber for years when I quit cold turkey in anticipation of drug tests during job applications. I was completely sober for 8 months and when I got hired without a drug test I was so mad. I was expecting more drastic changes during sobriety but the only thing I noticed was the return of dreams. I hadn't really noticed their absence during my decades of cannabis use but while sober they were much more vivid and outlandish than I remember them being. They've since disappeared again once I resumed dabbing shortly after starting work.
I quit vaping wax recently because I was tired of goldfish brain and, on top of my memory returning, the most noticeable shift was the return of dreams.
I actually dreamed that I ate an edible and freaked out, only to realize I was in a dream. It's the closest I've come to lucid dreaming in a very long time.

I'm a medical provider at a university hospital. They have a drug testing policy, but they have only ever utilized it for staff, not faculty members. I've worked in my clinic for more than ten years and have never been drug tested.
Pretty sure the hospital administrators really don't want to know if any of their physicians have any bad habits. It's kinda a lose lose situation for the hospital, and it's pretty well known that our field has substance abuse issues.
Yet the actual unemployment in America is around 24%, so how hard are they looking? Or is it they're just stopping because they know it's a waste of money?
Yeah this is a good thing. I wish drugs were decriminalized and treated as a health epidemic.
