I think FT will find that it’s not poaching; that’s just where the educators fleeing the US landed.

Canada’s not trying to woo US educators to Canada; they’re trying to be more attractive than Germany and China to those already leaving.

But as this trade war ramps up, we’re going to see an increase in this “Canada stealing our rhetoric out of US media.

A title from a non-american source with actual journalism would say "Scientific community flees American fascism. Canada accepts academic refugees and supports their research."

[–] castle88@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

That would make some more sense, given that we're cutting scientists from the public service.

Probably on some things, even if it's blatantly false. However, I don't see "Canada is stealing our scientists/researchers/academics" as being of concern to a large part of the US voting base.

Seems like they would consider it 'owning the libs'.

For them, logic works both ways; they can persecute the academics and cut their funding to own the libs while also threaten war on Canada for stealing the same people.

Very, very true.

"Poaches"? Who uses that word? Like researchers are animals for poaching?

Ahhh

FP, if you don't like what you're seeing so much, go back and tell your masters to properly support researchers, like they're humans with lives, and not fuck em over.

But oh wait, your masters fucking hate that!

Well, go pound sand then I guess.
