You're partnering with the transphobe to make money! That's wrong, despite your opinion...

But you'll take her money and help her fund hate groups
Worse, she'll MAKE her money and help her fund hate groups
if you are so opposed perhaps you should organise a strike with your coworkers until they introduce a cool trans character into the series. Then watch rowling foam like a rabid rowling.
They'll just call her Edickth Raperilington, and make her a troll with magical strength.
The solution to the sexual predator author is to not pay attention to the sexual predator author's words, forever.
Even if they did, she’d still use the profits to attack human rights organisations.
The video game had trans characters. But hardly anyone was ever mentioning that because the boycott was louder.
and it was still not loud enough, as people still indirectly funded anti-trans policies by buying that game
This is like you should feel ok watching the new series because some of the staff are conscientious wage slaves rather than full-on fascist bootlickers.
Fuck all these sell-out assholes, pretending like their opinions matter, when they're still willing to work for her.
Yet her saying this would be noticed by many Harry Potter fans and hopefully make them think. While not taking the role would not communicate anything to the fans
Personally, I'd be much more interested to hear from actors that turned down roles like this, rather than from the ones still profiting from them.
I posted this in !tvmovies@lemmy.dbzer0.com earlier.
Queer Director Ally Pankiw Shows Turning Down Harry Potter Is as Simple as One Text
The director tells Them that the idea of J.K. Rowling being mad at her is “wild” but “also kinda thrilling.”
See? Now that's the shit I'm talking about. That's integrity. Good for her.
Every Harry Potter fan I've met already prerequisites any talk of the franchise with 'I don't agree with Rowling, but…', they already know, they'd just rather support the eradication of trans people than give up their children's toys.
Children generally don’t have a clear and settled opinion on trans rights. This actress saying she doesn’t agree with Rowling can make them think, so it is useful for trans rights that she said this
If only they didn’t buy more of that Potter crap be it physical or digital.
Then don't accept the role. Put your money where your mouth is. Coward.
she put her mouth directly on rowlings asshole
But not enough to pass on that fat-ass check
Not that "strongly" obviously.
Still planning on cashing them checks though ain't ya Bel?
Why is it that everyone associated with Harry Potter gets to be a star? There was a thread yesterday about whoever played Lavender Brown, and she also got called “Harry Potter Star,” even though nobody seemed to remember the character even being in the movies. There has to be a cutoff somewhere.
Lavender Brown is one of the most memorable characters (aside from the core actors) from the movies imo, because she's black in the first several and the instant she becomes relevant to the story she's white. They've got all kinds of wacky magic in that school
« I strongly disagree with her … I’ll still play to make her some more money »
I understand that capitalism is dehumanizing us but this piece make me sad
Then don't take the role. Don't participate in Harry Potter (Joanna's Version). Don't feed the machine
Sounds like they should cancel the series, since it primarily exists to distance Rowling from the naysayers who were in the movies. Now that those in the series are also opposed to her views… what’s even the point anymore?
The primary existence is easy money.
and i heard she is trying to retcon the og actors, and the series with her views.
I think the need to make her cash cow make more cash overrides her need to push her shitty views on other people. That said maybe she plans on making the cash cow do both with the upcoming series, I guess only the people who actually watch it will be the ones to find out.
Fair point. A part of me does want to watch the series, because I was a fan of the books and the movies way back when (before JK Rowling was a dumpster fire). There's a reason I haven't bought the movies on Blu-ray/4K. Or the new audiobooks (I don't have the old ones, either.) And why I won't be watching the show. I did buy the game, Hogwarts Legacy, on Xbox, on a fire sale, it was like ten bucks. The one with a trans character in Hogsmeade that takes place like 100 years before Voldemort's birth. Pretty sure JK Rowling does not approve of that game.
Yeah it's annoying that she couldn't help herself but use her fame and fortune to push a shitty bigoted opinion. Her books brought so much joy to so many but her opinions have really tainted everything's she's touched.
Right. It's like Orson Scott Card. The guy's a homophobic POS IRL, but his book Ender's Game is about a boy who gets bullied, he rises above it and becomes an intergalactic hero. And then you find out the author is one of the bullies. Sigh.
My only experience of ender's Game was the movie and hot damm the movie was a hot piece of boring garbage. Is the book actually good, I see it on lists of sci-fi must read but the movie has really tainted the idea of reading it for me.
I liked the movie. Watched it twice. Bought it on iTunes. Then I read the book. I still think the movie is okay, but I can't bring myself to watch it.
The book isn't exactly phenomenal, but the movie didn't nail it. Card was right when he said the audiobook was the peak adaptation and they would never make a great movie from it. The book was better than the movie, just for what the movie got wrong or missed.
Read the book if you like the idea behind the movie. The book has the same exact idea. If you didn't like the idea, the book probably won't win you over.
The two big changes I remember is, one, Ender was like 5 or 6 in the book, they had to age him up for the movie. Same with the other kids. They were actual children, not teenagers, not "17 is a whole ass child" children, they were actual school-age children, zero thoughts of hooking up or anything like that... little kids. For better or worse. Big babies. And that was the point, Card was suggesting that older kids or teenagers would not be suitable for the programme because, well, if you remember the ending, the book does the same thing. And two, there was a lot more focus on Ender's family back home and the life they lived and the system of government they lived under. I believe the ruling body(ies?) on Earth played a bigger role in the later books. But what was going on back home was a bigger deal in the book where the movie focused almost exclusively on the space camp/battle school or whatever it was called (it's been years).
Hrmm interesting I thought the concept in the movie was fine, I thought the execution and focus on the space camp nonsense was .. well .. nonsense. Sounds like the book might be worth a read. To be fair thats usually the case, movie adaptations almost always need to cripple the original text to shoehorn it into the medium.
Well, the space camp's true purpose is a spoiler. It's one of those situations where they make a thing to do one thing, but sell it to the public on another thing entirely. And they do that in the hopes that when someone passes the test, they are on board with the true purpose.
I wanna say this has been done in other mediums, but I'm trying to recall all the movies and shows and anime and games I've seen recently and I'm not seeing it. But I know it's a trope.
It kind of seems like if a vegan worked on a CAFO and processed livestock for slaughter ..
Virtue jerking is funny.
Okay so that's why I don't recognize her. She's not a star from Harry Potter the movies, she's a star from the soon to be released TV series Harry Potter which I guess it going to be a redo of the adaptabarationisms.
