This is not an excuse to stay home, get your asses to the polling booths this time for the love of god

[–] ZK686@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

So, is she assuming every single millennial is going to vote Democrat? I'm a Gen X, we had harder times than millennials, but as you got older, your political views, priorities, and just over all attitude about life changes.. I started off liberal/democrat..but I'm finding myself identifying more and more to the Right.

[–] FoxtrotDeltaTango@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I guess the millennials are the hard men (& women) now

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

We were molded by hard times

[–] ZK686@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Every generation before you had it worse.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 56 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No shit, why do you think MAGA is speedrunning authoritarianism?

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 8 points 2 days ago (7 children)

That and minority voters will become the majority voting block and overwhelmingly swing liberal.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Immigrants tend to lean right as they are usually more conservative.

[–] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 1 points 1 day ago

Not in the US. Almost every immigrant group except for Vietnamese and Cuban people vote by large majorities for Democrats. That's why the GOP manufactured the bullshit lie that Democrats bring in immigrants to vote for them.

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That just isn't true. There are plenty of dumb non-whites as there are dumb white people.

Been hearing this for the past decade now. Still awaiting that tidal wave.

Also, last Presidential election, that age group had significant swing toward MAGA so take from that what you will.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Millennials have been able to vote for decades now don't see it making any difference. And no Gen Z or Alpha is not going to save anything as there are people who well vote right in every age bracket.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Millennials have been able to vote for decades now don’t see it making any difference.

Turns out this generation is just as susceptible to propaganda and misinformation as every prior generation. I guess this means we can stop saying "Blame the Boomers" every time the country shits the bed?

And no Gen Z or Alpha is not going to save anything

Millennials might be the tail end of the Fuck Around generation, depending on how we wrap up the 2020s.

Gen z & α aren't going to have the luxuries of cheap(ish) real estate, surplus fossil fuels, abundant exploitable labor and materials, or a financial sector squatting on the esophagus of international trade. We broke all the post-Cold War levers of international control. We're very likely going to be dealing with one or two more self-inflicted pandemics, if RFK Jr has his way. And our most lucrative satraps - Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Canada - aren't going to be in a position to prop us up if we tank the global economy again, like we did in '08, '14, and '20.

Maybe this will curb our worst impulses. Maybe Gen z won't be as inclined to carpet bomb a Middle Eastern country or a South American coastline if we've long since burned ourselves out of anti-ballistic interceptors and seaworthy aircraft carriers. Or maybe they'll reinvent fascism from first principles and just invade Ottowa because it's easier. Idfk.

But I do think we're far downstream of Allen Dulles doing regime change across half the world from a smoke-filled room in Langley. We're far downstream of white flight into suburban sprawl and every middle-income family owning a fleet of SUVs and everyone having a childhood memory of vacationing in Disney World and this one weird guy becoming a billionaire because he's the first guy in the country who thought about importing screwdrivers from China. The next generations are not going to have the raw materials to replicate what prior generations performed. They will have to behave differently by necessity.

[–] Cherries@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Can't be a candidate until you are at least 35, pretty much. Millennials are just now getting to the right amount of experience in politics and age group to run for political positions.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

People don’t really start to vote until they are 40.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 20 hours ago

I mean, I've voted every time since I was able to. Even in primaries once I realized they were a thing and you could participate if you were independent.

[–] NehpetsDoom@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What you're forgetting is boomers are dying.

[–] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

That's really the important part.

And with them goes an entire world that was devoted to them, advertising to them, proselytizing them, indoctrinating them.

It might be hard for the world to adjust, honestly, it's been so damn long. And the boomers that are still around think they're going to live forever, from the small sample size I know of.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 3 points 21 hours ago

They really do act like they will live forever.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago

Many voters have been disillusioned. Why bother voting, if it's just the same two brands of getiatric cunts.

What seems to be changing, as far as I can tell, is that they're developing a sense for the power of primaries and more regional elections to shift the position of the less malignant brand.

The best indicator of success is the reaction of the Dem leadership: They weren't as concerned about losing to the Reps as they were about this "insurrection" threatening their slow, balanced slide by actually tugging on that rope.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I love that we're finally getting good progressive candidates and I only hope we're not one election cycle too late for a free and fair election.

If at all possible, everyone who can should vote early at the election center to make sure whatever fascist plans they have in store will not interfere with your vote, especially in swing states and Dem-leaning districts. Help others vote early by giving rides or otherwise helping them get there.

Don't depend on mail-in ballots and be concerned about election-day voting at polling places. If you have to wait until the day, go as early as possible. They can't be everywhere the whole time so their plans will be to pick the places their interference will have the most impact.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Not just Millenial, but GenZ. Some early GenA are about right for voting too.

[–] AnotherWastedHuman@retrolemmy.com 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gen X here, been progressive since long before I knew there was a term for it. All I can say is it's about fucking time.

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 21 points 2 days ago

Also Gen X, call me jaded but I'll believe it when I actually see young people go out and vote.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Not enough millenials and Gen Z are getting off their asses to vote. There is ZERO good reason boomers + Gen X still comprise the majority voting block.

We just lost the Wisconsin Dem governor primary to an AIPAC allied Dem because of this. Younger people need to get their collective shit together. Its their future that their inaction is fucking up.

[–] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well that's just how the world works. The boomers are in retirement age now and have more time to vote. That's how voting has worked for a very long time, as frustrating as it is.

If we were a sane country we'd vote on the weekends and automatically register people.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Work, isn't a fucking excuse when the alternative is fascism.

Thats some real pussy ass shit. How can young people en masse scream for revolution, and expect one to happen, if they're too afraid to take a few hours off of work?

If that's the case, we truly are hyper-fucked.

VOTE DEMOCRAT NO MATTER WHO

VOTE IN PERSON; NOT BY MAIL

FAILURE TO DO SO IS SURRENDER TO FASCISM AND THE END OF DEMOCRACY IN THE USA FOREVER

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub -1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, I'd love to do that but, unless you're giving me a couple thousand bucks and a farm sitter, I'm not getting to the shithole state I'm from. Apparently I'm a fascist for living on the other side of the world despite voting for the most progressive people on the ballot.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

What an annoying little dipshit you are.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Vote by mail if it is an option. Those machines are rigged, Trump and Musk both admitted this before the last election. Mail in voting is infinitely harder to fuck with as there is a human, being watched by other humans, doing the count check.

As newthrowaway reminded me, hand drop off your mail in ballot.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Hand drop off your mail in ballot.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Yes. Absolutely.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This is the way

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Oregon only votes by mail so idk what's going to happen here :(

Won't matter if Trump prevents all future elections (like he LITERALLY promised during his last campaign).
