English

The Scots and English are different countries

The Welsh too

And Northern Ireland should not be a part of the UK.

Perhaps if anyone could get a good cup of tea in Boston, things would be a little more civil.

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i happen to recall they do like to throw tea parties.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They use harbor water in the tea though

[–] unwarlikeExtortion@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You mean they cold brew the tea in the ocean basin?

Honestly, right now I’d love to be annexed by Canada.

Or Denmark.

Like. I’d totally help make that happen.

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 42 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Dane here. while your offer is flattering, we can’t accept as we have our own environmental problems to fix first. We don’t need another dumpster to clean.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

But but but... You could clean Texas!

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 8 points 1 week ago (36 children)

It would require a genocide to clean Texas of all their environmental issues. And as far as I’m concerned, genocide is wrong.

You couldn't pay us enough to put up with your fucking yahoos. I think you're going to need to figure it out yourselves.

America will always do the right thing, after they've tried literally everything else.

[–] SEND_BUTTPLUG_PICS@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We don't even try the wrong things. We just keep doing the same old shit we've been doing and wondering why nothing ever changes.

As much as I despise the imperial legacy of my home country, this got a laugh out of me.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Scots are a bit more chill. With the English stickers, that’s what they call “banter” (i.e. essentially shitposting), but when you see a St. George’s flag, there’s always an edge of aggression to it.

Not that Scottish football fans can’t be aggressive, just that they refer to the Northern Irish sectarian conflict when doing so.

Yeah, because the UK government is going such a bang-up job of running things. :|

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

At least we're not being run by neutral Nazis. Admittedly it's a pretty low bar but I think we just about passed over that one.

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You are being run by fascists however.

Fascists who allow immigrants homes to be bombed, who target and criminalise minorities such as trans people, who abuse the legal system to silently change charges to terrorism because they were anti-genocide.

But hey as long as it’s Mussolini and not Hitler, you’re fine right?

Probably about half of us will find this funny as hell. I know I do.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Boston/Mass ain’t exactly republican strongholds…

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago

As a Canadian, I find this incredibly hilarious.

I'm down for being annexed just please

  1. Don't be a country seriously considering electing Nigel Farage or the local equivalent
  2. Be careful how much you annex or you will get #1 eventually.

That blue guy better not be a Brit talking about colonialism. Come to think of it, better not be Dutch, Spanish, or Portuguese either.

The amertican people have been asking for some time for Britain to take us back. Thats how bad our government is-- we'd happily sign back onto the absolute dumpter fire of British government rule and it'd be a great improvement.

What did you Yankees do to the country of the Fist Nations? Take America Back should be the cry

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 17 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I'm mean...... If we're pointing fingers about the colonization and genocide of indigenous people, I don't know if the British really have room to make a lot of criticisms without a huge helping of hypocrisy.

Most of the deaths of indigenous people in North America happened before the concept of America even occurred. Some of the most horrific violence that ever occurred in North America was perpetrated during the King Phillips war by English colonialists.

If I had to choose between being British and American, I think I'd just kill myself.

Would be funny if it was any country other than UK saying that lol

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

It makes it funnier

[–] cyclonedusk@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago

You kiddin'? I've been begging Canada to take New England as a province since y2k.

ngl tho, for all its difficulties the british medical system is straight up better than the american one, since the american one is basically "no system, fuck you get rekt" x.x
