A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

LOL. This meme assumes the us hasn't lost a war before.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We rediscover this every time, we are an easily distracted people

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Hang on, we can talk about this later. More importantly - if you're NOT Rick, then who is?

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 39 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

...when you lose a war you started.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Happened the last time that Nazis started a war.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

The "we're god's chosen people" aspect of fascism paired with underestimating every opponent is what always leads to fascists getting mired in stupid, pointless wars.

[–] drcobaltjedi@programming.dev 24 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, I knew something stupid like this was going to happen. Spaghetti for brains started a stupid war for stupid reasons, had literally no plan, no end goal, and then Iran did the smart thing cutting off the oil supply for months until the dipshit decided he had enough and was willing to crawl on his hands and knees for a deal. Of course the deal was going to be shit for america, dons a dumbass, a terrible negotiator, and had no leverage.

I'm pretty sure right now we could just pack up and leave. We're just too stupid to do that.

It seems like the USA really wants to GTFO. Trump even admits we'll run out of oil in 4 weeks. It's the bloodthirsty Israelis that won't leave. The Israeli government and its people (NOT just the government) genuinely want the world to end.

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

All we'd have to do is pack up and go. Take ALL of our weapons out. Without the USA backing, the Israeli government looses quite a bit of bite. Neither of those things will happen.

There is a large spectrum of wants observable from the citizens of Israel.

Several large groups of citizens from the USA also want to see the world end and fund settlements they think will help point the heavens in that direction. Silly humans

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Defense contractors don't want to stop selling to Israel. US military doesn't want to lose their big military base there. But yeah Israel doesn't want a peace deal so it violates them immediately everytime

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

In a sort of way, it's like 1914, except Israel is the incompetent Austro-Hungarian Empire trying to get into a war with Serbia and the US is Imperial Germany just getting strung along as the muscle

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

Trump really doesn't want to GTFO when he's called a loser. He needs people to believe he won somehow.

The Israeli government and its people (NOT just the government) genuinely want the world to end.

Not really, they "just" want to remove the Iranian regime or at least cripple it to the point where it's no longer a threat. They don't care what happens to the world's oil supply. Either way, I really hope the US pushes through with the peace deal. It'll be better for the world as a whole and might even teach those warmongers a lesson.

Edit: What exactly are the downvotes for? If you think I'm defending Israel here I suggest you improve your reading comprehension.

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If they get regime change in iran, then they'll just want Lebanon, then Syria, then Egypt, ...

[–] BlueBockser@programming.dev 1 points 3 weeks ago

Absolutely, their strategy is to be the preeminent and unchallenged power in the region. They'll keep hitting their neighbors whenever they can to keep them down.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

We have to find the WMDs in Iran tho.

[–] Kwiila@slrpnk.net 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

USA hasn't won a war longer than 2 months since ww2. They've gotten used to it.

[–] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What I don't get is why we aren't seeing this in his approval ratings. Are they just lagging? Is his hard base like 40% of the population?

2015 primary quote btw

What killed my last shred of liberalism was seeing that the vast majority of conservatives really just don't have any form of ethical spine or standards. A system simply can not function when half of the people it depends on are malicious actors.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We don't actually have to pay $300b. That seems to be Trump's original idea.

Is he getting a kickback?

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

$300b is roughly the inflation adjusted reparations Germany paid, signed in Versailles, 14 Points, with the last one about the UN, similar to the American peace proposal for WW1.
Whoever wrote this up knows to much history to be from the Trump admin.
