[green, speaking, looking smug]
Okay, hear me out, here's the plan…
We go full apathy, basically we let capitalism fully spiral out into fascism. Once it's done, people will rise up and the system will collapse under its own weight. From its ashes, with our help, a better society will rise. This is how we win.

[we now see that green is tied up in front of a bleak wall, along with a group of other people, being aimed at by a firing squad of characters in fascist uniforms]
[green, smiling] OK?
[blue, pissed] Dude…

The idea is highly contingent on enough people agreeing. Like any system will disappear in a second if 100% of the people agree that it should. The problem with fascist states is they tend to be dictatorships and use a lot of force which is really efficient in controlling people, which is also why every military is structured that way. You need only like 10% of the population and enough force vs this concept where you need nearly everyone.

See for example the German communist party telling people to vote for the NSDAP to accelerate the collapse, just to get killed.

I mean, an explosion is a bit simpler than a polity, although I do agree that we should be aiming for political harmony, which I do not think will come from a state as means or ends

Average "protest" non-voter/3rd party presidential voter.

Letting capitalism spiral into fascism is literally what the Democratic party did but ok

Maybe the Republicans can fix it.

Otherwise, if you want a different party, they need to start local and work their way up. No way a 3rd party is going to come out of nowhere without an established base, become elected President, and then get a Congress without any members of their party to do anything but sabotage them.

as opposed to the "what can I do, both sides want to hit me, so i just have to choose which area of my body to let them hit! not the face!" centrists who just sit there waiting foir things to fix themselves.

It's kinda funny, how the right-wingers consistently manage to infiltrate parties and turn them into a vehicle for their own agenda, while the left-wingers are either busy fighting each other, or fighting whatever they perceive as "centrist". Funny in a sad way.

Have you ever known a time where it was different? And what should the left do, water down their agenda until they become centrists? If you have ideas lets hear em.

[–] BlindPenguin@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

I'm not talking about becoming centrists, i'm talking about building coalitions. There are core issues many people can agree upon, and treat each other under the motto "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Details can be discussed later, when the threat is less urgent. History has a few examples on what happens, when the left treats other democrats as the enemy. The most infamous one should be the German KPD. They declared the SPD and social democracy as the main enemy. I don't think i need to point out how that ended. The thing about democracy is, that you will never get everyone to agree 100% with each other. But you can agree with enough topics to prevent a dictatorship.

What about those people that realize how big of a game is being played to get them kids who would sit there and play video games and eat Cheetos twelve hours a day to get tf up outta their crusty battlestation and go be useful members of society.

A fisher of fish; catches fish and serves himself.

A fisher of men; catches people and serves society.

Jesus turned water to wine. He fixed the broken so they could do something of benefit to society.

Our culture is engineered.

We needed a big bad for the last twelve years, cuz your ass would be apathetic as fuck with your TOYS you masturbate your life away with, still, despite the biggest caricature of the devil we could put in front of a screen.

Dopamine is a bitch, ain't it?

Some of those accelerationists are just hating the US, see Badempanda as an example.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Russia says it don't work like that.

[–] chloroken@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yep, nobody in the world's history has ever fought and won for better conditions. Never happened. We should all just keep voting for Democrats, that's working.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can't tell right now if it's too little too late, but some Democratic candidates are catching on, refusing to take corporate donations, AIPAC, etc.

After Hoover, it was impossible to get Republicans into the presidency until after the war (and then it was Eisenhower). Democrats got us the New Deal, the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act.

From Nixon forward, the only reason that Republicans have been able to get into power is due to hatred of blacks, opposition to abortion-access and a fuckton of voter suppression, gerrymandering, the electoral college and when those fail, election tampering. When elections are free and fair, we do in fact get Democrats, and while some of them are almost as corrupt as Republicans, they still sometimes push forward progress.

This time, I must admit, the MAGA movement has us in a wringer, especially since SCOTUS is loaded with antebellum extremists who are controlled by the ownership class. Since in the current system, they have the capacity to veto anyone else, the US may be screwed.

But then again, Trump, the Project 2025 coalition and SCOTUS are moving at breakneck speed bringing the nation to ruin, and making circumstances unlivable for huge portions of the population. Unlike the ten years of Nacht und Nebel that slowly wearied the German people as the German Reich seized power, the proverbial frog is being dropped right into boiling water.

Hence the visibility protests have been bigger than any ever seen in the US. Labor unions are forming, growing, and coordinating towards an effort of recurring general strikes. So I don't know how this ends.

Especially since, you know, that might happen at any time, either naturally or unnaturally, and dear leader has arranged time and again the humiliation of his would be successors. When it does happen, the whole MAGA movement goes down as well, and the Republican party will be a worse trainwreck than it was before Trump went down his escalator.

Nobody's saying not to fight. They're saying don't encourage things to get worse first.
